Prospective Tour question

OK, I read the stickies and can't seem to find the answer to this. My apologies if I missed something.

I'm considering taking a tour of DVC during my next trip to WDW in Sept/Oct. But I can find NO information about how long this would take and whether I can only visit SSR, since that's where the available points are. [I'd be looking to compare buying direct versus resale, hence the desire to visit another resort.]

Do you get anything for a visit? I'm not looking for freebies, but if there is something, then I could take that into account in deciding whether it was worth losing some travel time to tour.

Should I make an apppointment before leaving home? If I just walk up, is there a chance I'll be told they can't speak with me then?

I am sure you could make an appointment for a tour. We just stumbled onto one of the DVC kiosks in Downtown Disney and scheduled ours for the next morning. There are at least two DVC stands in each park, too. They promise no more than an hour. They give the facts and no high-pressure tactics. Then they take you to the model for a tour. We saw Saratoga Springs. I don't know if you can see the other resorts that way. They also watched our children for us and fed them ice cream. (They have video games in the playroom, too.) They will come get your family in a DVC van, take you to the presentation, and bring you anywhere you want to go afterward. We went straight to MK. The vans can go right up to where the buses go, so you don't lose too much time in transportation.

I forgot to add that they gave us meal vouchers for each member of our family (5). I've also heard that they give out fast passes. The vouchers were great because we used them at POR food court, where there were a lot of choices. It covered appetizer, entree, drink, and desserts for each person.

The guided tours are at SSR, where you will see the models and have a virtual tour of the other resorts during the presentation. Childcare is provided and they will also provide transportation to/from the tour from any WDW resort. Arrangements may be made right from your room or at any of the kiosks. Walkups could be accommodated at times, but I'd suggest making a reservation. There is also a model still at BWV - accessible from the boardwalk (near Jellyrolls).

You can also visit any of the other resorts and ask at the desk if you could see the villas. If there are any unoccupied and clean they will usually accommodate such requests if possible. (I'd recommend going between noon and 2PM for the best opportunity of seeing a room.)

When we were there in March, the model at Boardwalk Villas was open. Its located on the Boardwalk, towards Jelly Rolls.

I would make an appointment just prior to going, but you can do it last minute. I stopped in the Boardwalk model on my last day in Disney. Talked to the lady inside. Liked what I heard and asked to take a toutr of SSR. It was around 4PM when they called to see if aomeone was available. The tours was already full. I told them I was leaving 6 AM the next day. She made a nother call to a manager, 15 minutes later I was on a shuttle to SSR.

One last note, If you go on the tour with your husband/wife you have 72 hours to decide to take the current incentive. If you go without your spouse, they give you up to a month to decide. At least thats what they did for me.

Dh and I took the tour in Oct 2005. There was a pamphlet in our room at WL when we arrived. It listed a $100 gift for taking the tour. I had been looking into DVC for a while, but it wasn't in the budget. Since we were on a kid-free vacation, we did it. We stopped at the DVC desk that was in the WL lobby. We were on our way to SSR in 20 minutes. We received a $100 certificate that we could use for anything on Disney property. And we bought 160 points at SSR.

The $100 gift was just for taking the tour.
