I was hoping someone could offer advice on purchasing DVC points through a broker vs. Disney direct. I realize the reduced per/point cost when purchased through a broker, what are the Cons?

Possible cons -

Resale process takes longer. It can be several months before you can actually make a reservation.

May have to wait longer to find a contract that meets your needs (for number of points, home resort, use year, etc).

Have to analyze each contract on its own merits and make an offer that will both pass ROFR and be acceptable to the seller. Number of points, status of those points, who pays dues, closing costs, etc. will all be factors.

Cons:
It will take longer to actually be able to use the points what with Right of First Refusal and closing.

You probably won't be able to use a credit card to purchase.

You'd have to get your own financing if you won't pay for the entire thing at closing.

If you already have DVC points, you don't pay closing costs through Disney but you will through resale. If you don't have DVC points, you pay closing costs to both Disney and resale.

You will get a new master contract each time you buy. Multiple master contracts are a little more complicated than one master with multiple add-ons.

Thanks for your reply.
Our family has made the trip to WDW for the Christmas / New Years holidays the last 5~6 years. We are seriously concidering purchasing resale points at the BCV. It's a wonderful resort.

All the Best..

Welcome to the Dis! :welcome:

Con: You really have to pay attention to what you are buying--have the points from this year been used, next years points borrowed or are there banked points (that would be nice :) )

I purchased a reasle contract at BWV a few months ago. Took about 6 weeks and went smoothly. Bought through The Timeshare Store, our board sponsor.

We recently purchased resale at BCV.:cloud9:

The contract had almost all the previous years points banked and even including the closing costs, I reckon we were still $2500 less than buying the same number of BCV points( with no banked points) from Disney.
The banked points were a huge bonus and will give us a kick start for the next 2 years. All in it took about 7 weeks (dealing with every thing by email and fax from Scotland). We had made our reservations within 10 days of closing.

Not sure about the rules of posting names so you can send me a PM if you want the name of the company we used. Our interests were looked after really well and I would not hesiatate to recommend them. I still look at their listings for a wee add-on!:lmao:

Good Luck:flower3:

An issue now is also end date. AKV for which there are few resales has a 2057 end date. BCV, BWV, VWL (and generally OKW resales) end 2041. If you are a young family buying in, that is definitely a factor to consider. And you have to ask the question for each resale resort whether the price is really less for what you get; for example, is BCV with a 2041 end date and $88 per point resale price really less expensive value-wise than paying $96 (after the incentive) per point for AKV which has a 2057 end date?
