Hi all,

I am hoping to get some advice. We are looking into buying through resale as it is less expensive. If we started small at 50 points we could pay cash and not have to finance. But my concern is whether or not it is even worth it to do this as we always stay at least 7 days and that wouldn't be enough points to cover our stay. Has anyone done this or have any helpful advice?
Thanks in advance

Squeezing a week out of 50 points will be tough. Mainly because Friday and Saturday nights are expensive. A lot of DVC veterans do not stay in the villas on these nights, they usually pay cash, stay with friends or family, or stay off property to keep costs down.

That being said, you could get a week at HHI during Adventure Season in a studio for 55 points. At WDW the cheapest weekly fair is at AKL during Adventure Season in a Value Studio for 72 points.

If 50 points is all that is within your means right now, you could go every other year, banking the off years and get yourself more flexibility... or you can go every 3 years and work with 150 points.

Hope this helps.

There is a link at the top of the page for the DVC Point Charts. The best thing to do is try and decide when and where you would like to stay. Then look at the point charts to see how many points it would take for the stay. That would give you a better idea of how many points you may need.

We did the same thing, 50 points resale so we could pay cash. We got all the DVC benefits right off the bat (AP Discount was our favorite) We started with banked points so we did a week in a studio off season. The next year we split between OKW and POFQ. We also did a non DVC week with a big AP discount.

We did a 70 point add on at SSR when we had the cash. We are pretty happy right now with our 120 points, all paid for.
