Proposing - Help and suggestions required.

I just thought of something. If you want to capture the moment you could hire a photographer to meet you at the poly to take pictures of you on the beach with the fireworks going off in the background and then propose to her at that time them you have it captured forever.

In Epcot in Japan there is a little bridge area over some ponds, it is a really pretty area and a bit more out the way so this could be a good place for you to propose, as it would be in Japan like you originally said and there shouldn't be too many people around.

Soopafly can I ask if you booked directly through Disney? If you did then you should get to go in a reserved area to watch Illuminations which should only have a handful of people. You could propose on the bridge in Japan, go and get some Champagne from the drinks cart in France (by the edge of the lagoon) and then go and watch Illuminations.

What if you got a chinese puzzle box and put the ring in it.

Make sure you get down on one knee and actually ask her. I have a friend who has been married almost 4 years now and still complains that her husband never actually asked - he just handed her a ring box. She even said to him "aren't you going to ask me?" and his response was "why? I know you'll say yes" - Tacky, tacky, tacky!
JandJ....Can you talk to my BF??? He keeps telling me he is going to just hand me the box. However, knowing my Bf he might have something else up his sleeve b/c lately it has been said that we are going to go pick up the ring and I'm not going to get to wear it...How is that fair :upsidedow I think I might have dashed his hopes when I told him that the store we are purchasing the ring from will have to size it...WHOOPS! Messed up his plan didn't I!!!

To add to this...You could always propose and use a photopass photographer. Purchasing photopass might be cheaper than renting a photographer. When you meet up with the photographer go to hand him your photopass card (get one early on in the trip) and then explain to him what you are going to do. Ask him to just keep snapping pics to capture every moment. I'm sure they would help.

that sounds pretty cool actually. What do you think of having dinner and watching fireworks from the poly beach, then going back to the room with it decorated by the florist? If I did that, where would be best to propose? Beach or room?

First off, I just want to say you are a wonderful guy to come on here and ask for ideas. Knowing that you want to make it super special for her is great! I'll share a few ideas for you.

IDEA #1- You could do the dinner then watching fireworks from the poly beach. Hire a florist to sprinkle red rose petals all over your room and have a bottle of her favorite chamagne waiting along with 2 chamagne glasses. Maybe you could get her glass engraved with "Will you marry me?" with the ring inside of it. That'd be my dream proposal but that didn't happen so I give you permission to steal it. ;) Plus she'll get a souvenier of how it happen!

IDEA #2- Right behind the castle in Magic Kingdom there's a wishing well and there's hardly ever any people hangin' out over there. Maybe you could give her a penny to wish upon and toss in. Right after she makes her wish and tosses the penny in the wishing well, you can get down on one knee presenting the ring and asking her to marry you. That'll be pretty romantic. It'll be like her dream came true!! To top it off maybe you can have a photopass photographer snapping away to get her reaction and everything.

IDEA #3- My fiance just gave me a great idea!! Have your GF go shopping in Japan and sneak away from her and see if the girls in the pearl booth can hide the ring in an oyster. If they can... "pick a pearl" (the oyster they hid the ring in) for her and get down on one knee and propose. That pearl booth can get crowded sometimes but if it's semi-early there's no more than 10 people there. She'll get a fiance, some bling, and a beautiful pearl all in one!

Hope this helps and good luck! We want to hear the story when you guys get back and she must start a PJ when she starts planning, ok?

I had also thought of this but the only place I know who can do it is gifts of a lifetime. I am not 100% sure they would be able to get their photographer to the poly beach at night for the fireworks. I think that would be the only place I would need to hire somebody with a camera. The Poly beach usually has people on it so asking someone to take a pic shouldn't be too hard.

Hello there :) Yes I think that's the one I was talking about. It has the little koi pond next to it? This is the area I mean .

Yes we have booked directly through Disney. I figured that was the safest way especially with the way things are at the moment. I have looked into these preferred areas, and I am afraid to say I haven't heard many great things about them. Most of the posts I read, people say there were trees in the way or something else was blocking their view. I am going to sound like a complete dummy now, but we were at Food & Wine last year and that was our first WDW trip. I thought the carts were only there during food & wine. Are the regular carts always out? The champagne one would be a great idea thankyou! I can also get a pint of guinness as well, now i'm happy :lmao:

I think I have heard of this but don't quote me on that. Is it something she literally has to figure out like a rubix cube? One of the things I love about my girlfriend (her name is Stephanie, she goes by Stefy on the disboards and has been forbidden to look at this part of the forums lol) is that her patience is nil. She would probably throw it in frustration:rotfl:

JandJ....Can you talk to my BF??? He keeps telling me he is going to just hand me the box. Hi there, thanks for posting :) We are definitely pre ordering the photopass and also a poly photo session for our trip. I have thought about using the photopass photographer to assist me. I had a few different ideas and thought maybe I should do it with a character in the background. She loves Belle & Stitch to pieces so to have them do something would be cool but I think Disney says something about not using them or relying on them.

Hello to you, thankyou very much for the compliment, it means alot to me:goodvibes. I am loving your first idea, that sounds romantic and private at the same time. Do you think they offer an engraving service? Typically how far out would I have to arrange this with Disney florist? I wouldnt know my room number until check in so how would it work?

She will definitely do a trip report about the whole thing and possibly a PJ as well. I will be sure to try and convince her to:thumbsup2

Thankyou to everyone who has posted so far and continues to keep posting. Without all your help I would totally screw this up lol. Lets keep the ideas and talk coming though, I still have time to book things and organise ;)

You don't need to give the florist your room number the hotel will give them that. I ordered my Dad a birthday present from them to be delivered the day we landed and it turned up at the room just after we had checked in.

Photographer wise you could book an independent one. Most of the brides on here use outside photographers and they offer engagement packages, i.e photo shoots for an hour. We are thinking of booking our photographer again when we go back to take some more photos of us.

We watched them from the preferred area last year and had a great view, we could see everything and there was only about 15 people in there so everyone had a good view. I know they use different positions, we were in Morocco. You should get, if you haven't already, some vouchers for various things like the preferred areas, Planet Hollywood etc... you could always phone up and book the area (we phoned in advance to make sure we got the date we wanted) and they will tell you then where to meet. Then if its Morocco you could go for it, if its somewhere else find out if its a good location, if not you can always cancel it through Concierge when you get to your resort.

That idea is very romantic and private. Nothing beats a romantic proposal that you'd remember forever. :goodvibes

For the glasses there's a few places you can get them: Things Remembered, eBay ( some eBay sellers do engraving for free), maybe that crystal booth in Magic Kingdom by the Pastry place on Main St., etc. And if you don't want to do the whole engraving thing with the ring in her glass - pour the chamagne glasses as your telling her how much you love her then hand her her glass and get down on one knee. That'd be just as romantic.

For the florist you could just do a phone call and see what they recommend. I'm not really sure how that'd work but some people have had flowers delivered to their rooms and stuff. I'm sure the rose petals could be arranged. ;) Rose petals could get expensive though so maybe have them sprinkled just your bed instead of the whole room depending on your budget. That'd be very pretty too and just as romantic!

I'm so excited for you both. I'm very anxious to hear how you decide to do it!!

Lots of great ideas so far!! My fiance proposed last summer during dinner at CRT, and it was perfect for us. The whole story is on the first page of my PJ linked in my signature if you want to read it.

Best of luck!!!

I certainly will. I only have another 15minutes at the work house and then im off home to relax with a beer or two  There have been some great responses so far and again I thank all of you so much. We have just booked the backstage safari tour for 12/08! I can't wait as this is our first Disney tour. If I can get the proposal right, this could be our best vacation yet!

I am just back from Disney World and I am now engaged:love: My DF and I had dinner reservations at the California Grill. We had a window seat with a beautiful view. We enjoyed a nice meal and then went out on the observation deck to watch Wishes. I love wishes and watching them with someone special makes them even better. After wishes was over I was staring out at the castle and then turned to go back inside. That is when my now DF said lets walk down to the end of the observation deck for a better look. We were the only ones left outside and that is when he said he had a question for me and then proposed. It was so romantic and private. It was perfect for us as my DF is very shy. We now have a special place at Disney that we will visit anytime we get the chance to go. I personally think anywhere in Disney is the perfect place to propose. Good Luck and all the best. I am sure whatever you decide it will be wonderful. I know it was the best day of my life.

Congratulations! I have only heard great things about the observation deck area and proposals, I am glad you have that special place you can always go back to when you visit WDW.

I also thought about it, but we have the California Grill booked quite late in our trip and I would like to do it in the first week as I will be a nervous ball of wreck if I have to wait to long lol. Congrats again, I wish you and your DF all the best for the future:thumbsup2

Good luck! Beauty and the Beast hang out at the perfume shop in France (or at least they used to!)

just a little update whist I am at lunch. I am waiting for a reply from the Disney florist. I emailed them to see if they offer any custom packages or if they are still going to offer a new package I read about on the theme park board. It looks very good and not too expensive considering it is Disney. I love posting from my iPhone, I can be anywhere and still go online haha.

that is a very nice story, thankyou for sharing :)

We are going for 2 weeks and I would also like to do this early in the trip. Even thining about it makes me a little nervous. I am guessing your friends were around to capture the moment on camera? I would like that for us but it is just the two of us going.

First of all, congratulations and good luck with your proposal! I'm sure it will be wonderful no matter how you choose to do it! :goodvibes

As far as photographing the moment, both photopass and cast members would be good. I've read stories from lots of people who have involved CMs in the special moments with lovely results... here's a link to another thread to illustrate (scroll down the page to read SpinDisc's proposal story) http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1757299&page=11

Other guests would also most likely be thrilled to assist so don't be shy about asking!

My son is also planning to propose to his girl during our December trip. We'll be there the same time as you! Want to plan a double proposal? That would certainly be something to remember!!!

Good luck!

Kelly

Lol how cool, where are you all staying? We are at Coronado Springs for the whole trip (unless we get a free upgrade to a deluxe *fingers crossed*). If I do it in a park, I will aim for Friday 5th December in Epcot. Still trying to decide what i will do for definite though.

Disney is so romantic, so most of these places work BUT I have three suggestions, perhaps not romantic, but practical:

1. DON’T propose in the dark, in some small hidden corner, at Illuminations or Wishes. When you propose, you need to see her face clearly & she needs to see yours. She should also be able to see the ring. So even if you choose Wishes or Illuminations time, do it in some light.
2. Propose early on in your trip, so you can enjoy Disney as an ‘engaged’ couple.
3. Definitely tell the CMs. If you have Park Hoppers, sneak away for an hour & pre-arrange it with the CMs in the decided park.

All the best! :goodvibes
