Proposing at Disney

Ok, I'm pretty sure I'm going to propose at Disney and have a few ideas about how I want to do it without paying a lot for an engagement package (I'm a college student so I don't have much money, and what I do have will be going towards getting as nice a ring as I can afford).

I just have one question right now (I'm not going to say too much if I don't have to because I wouldn't be surprised if the lucky girl is reading this). Would Disney characters be willing to help me out in my proposal? I would just like 1 of them to do something extremely easy that would take maybe 2 minutes of their time. But I wasn't sure if maybe they weren't allowed to do these things in order to encourage people to actually buy their packages.

Edit: Also, I didn't see a separate section for engagements. Did I miss it? This seemed to me to be the closest.

When DFi wanted to propose he was told by a few of his CM friends that they couldn't, but I know at least one person here was proposed to with Mickey and Minnie at the Magic Kingdom durning EMH.

Congratulations!

DFi = Disney Fiance/Fiancee

CM = Cast Member

EMH = Extra Magic Hours :thumbsup2

So, officially, the characters aren't allowed to help you do this. But there have been many stories of regular cast members going out of their way to help with proposals. Maybe you could ask the cast member who accompanies the character you want and see what they say.

Good luck - and congratulations! :goodvibes

Ok, thanks. So I should probably go and try and talk to them but have a backup plan in case they won't do it?

Yes because they don't have to help you. My DH proposed at Sea Breeze Point (where we knew we wanted ot get married). It was romantic, personal, uncomplicated, and free so there are a lot of things you can do.

IMO th emore complicated it becaome the more opportunity for it to fall apart.

Good luck!!!!

I completely understand being a college student and not having a lot of money, etc. That said, I wanted to float an idea that you might like, even if it is a little pricey because I think it is worth it. You might consider renting the Grand1 Yacht for a wishes cruise for you and your girlfriend. It is an hour cruise on the luxury yacht, and they put the yacht right in front of the Magic Kingdom for the fireworks. The music is piped into the yacht so you can hear everything. You can stand out on the back deck of the boat with her and propose during/immediately after the fireworks. There is a crew of two included and they are more than willing to do whatever....I would suggest you ask them to disappear during the fireworks and take pictures of both of you after. If you're looking to make sure she never forgets that moment, this is one of the most guaranteed ways of doing so.

Even if you didn't want to rent the Grand1, there are other boats available for Wishes and Illuminations cruises at a lesser cost that would do the trick.

I love this idea, but I will ad a word of caution. DH and I just came back from a trip, where his best friend proposed to his gf.The initial plan was for all of us to take a wishes cruise to throw her off, and then for DH and another friend of ours to film/take pictures of everything.

When it came down to it, there was a massive storm that blew in, and all boat rides were canceled. We didn't have to pay for the cruise, but I would strongly suggest having a back up plan in case it storms. :scared:

We ended up watching Wishes from the docks at the Poly, and our friend still proposed to his gf, :cloud9: and it was still romantic...but I know he was spazzing for a good 45min before he figured out what to do. :headache:

Absolutely a good thing to remember. The cruise would probably have the fewest number of variables to work out. If the weather works, it's almost guaranteed to work perfectly. But it is great advice to always have a backup plan. For example, in conjunction with the cruise, you could make reservations for a late dinner at Narcoosee's or one of the other restaurants at Grand Floridian. Then if the weather sucks, you could propose to her at the restaurant.

I would really, really love to do something like that, but I just don't know where I'm going to get the extra money to do that.

When are you going (month/time of year) and where are you staying (on property?)? This may help us better evaluate some options for you.

If you're going during an off season talk to the photopass they can sometimes help out. With special places and if they can photo there and maybe set something up.

Also let us know what she likes about Disney (does she have favorite characters, etc?). That would be helpful. Thanks.

More info would definitely help to narrow down some suggestions.

You can PM me if you're worried she'll figure out it's you by giving more info. I'm happy to help.

It's a bit of money but my DF proposed to me this way:

from www.mouseweddings.com :

Cinderella's Royal Table Engagement Package

Because it is located in Cinderella Castle, Cinderella's Royal Table is a perfectly romantic place to feel like a royal couple. Proposing at Cinderella's Royal Table is so popular that the restaurant offers an engagement package.

The fairytale dining spot features American cuisine and hosts meet-and-greets with Disney princesses and the Fairy Godmother during breakfast and lunch. The engagement package is available at breakfast, lunch or dinner.

After your meal the server will present the engagement ring in a glass slipper, lying on a bed of fresh rose petals enclosed in a decorative platter with a dome lid. This is followed with a non-alcoholic champagne toast.

During lunch or dinner, you also have the option of a special white chocolate slipper filled with chocolate mousse on an angel food cake pillow, served with fresh berries and a raspberry sauce.

The Cinderella's Royal Table Engagement Package includes:

*

Preferred restaurant seating overlooking the Carrousel
*

A photograph with Cinderella
*

Your meal, including a toast with non-alcoholic beverage
*

A crystal slipper engraved with your names and the date
*

A pair of decorated take-home champagne flutes
*

A Cinderella's Royal Table lithograph
*

A personal photographer to capture the moment

The cost is $300 plus 6.5% tax and 18% gratuity.

Call (407) 824-4477 at least 7 days in advance to schedule a proposal using the engagement package at Cinderella's Royal Table. I recommend calling even earlier because it can take them quite a while to get back to you!

here are pics from my proposal:

(The picks around the Magic Kingdom are not part of the included photos - they were from the photopass photographers around the park)

We also just got engaged at CRT on 6/13 and it was wonderful, really just like a fairy tale! I know you don't want to spend much extra if you can help it but I think you really get a lot. You get dinner for two, pictures with Cinderella, the ring is presented on a rosebud in a glass slipper that is engraved for you with your names and the date, you also get the champagne flutes to keep and they wrap everything up really cute with castle confetti, which are all great souvenirs. i haven't seen the photopass pics yet, but it was nice to have the photographers there to capture the moment. I know our families are really looking forward to seeing them.

Make sure after you propose you stop by and see Minnie somewhere during the trip, she makes a big deal of looking at the ring and it's really cute.
