Propane Tank Rental???

I'll be tent camping at Ft. Wilderness in December and will be flying in, therefore I won't be able to bring any propane with me.

Do they rent the propane tanks like you have on your grill? How much do they rent for??? I'll be bringing a lantern and stove and will need the fuel to run them for 5 nights/6 days. I much prefer the large tank to the smaller cylinders which I'm sure cost a fortune at the trading post.

I broke down and called Ft. Wilderness Guest Services about the tank rental. They DO NOT rent tanks
If you are driving in and can bring your own tank, or have a gas tank on your camper, they DO fill those.

This policy leaves us tent campers that fly in kind of stuck.

However, they do sell the smaller canisters at Meadow Trading Post.

I just hope they don't charge a really high amount for those smaller canisters.

I think the propane at FW is expensive. Are you renting a car? There is a Wal Mart and K Mart close by that would have propane at a reasonable cost. How are you getting from the airport to FW? Check to see if they will make a stop for you on the way, and Wal Mart also has food. The other option is to check with you neighbors at camp. I know that I make at least one trip out while I am camping, and would be more than happy to pick up a few items for a neighboring camper without a car. I think most campers feel that way. When are you going to be there. Perhaps ypu could hook up with someone on these boards that will be there at the same time that could help you. Good Luck. KQ
