Proof of Time changes coming in 2014

What does everyone think??? I think they have extended the time because many people were just putting 2:46 for their time (for Half Marathons...I haven't followed the fulls) and now you will need proof if it's anything less than 3:15.

I think this will be a good thing for the overcrowding and incorrect corral placement, BUT...

Notice the last line about NOT being able to submit times at the expo anymore... not sure that is a good thing? :confused3

From the runDisney site:

Proof of Time

New 2014 runDisney proof of time guidelines:

If you believe you will finish the Half Marathon in less than 3:15 hours or the Marathon in less than 6:30 hours, proof of time is required for start corral placement. Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge and Dopey Challenge participants should adhere to Full Marathon proof of time requirements. Please reference the Race Pacing Chart below for finish times and associated pacing per mile.

AProof of time must be provided from a certified race reflecting results after January 1, 2012.

Half Marathon - 10K or longer
Full Marathon - 10 Miles or longer

A valid proof of time provided at the time of registration must include the following*:

Name of Race
Distance
City
State
Date
Finish time

*For example, Walt Disney World Marathon, 26.2, Orlando, FL, 1/13/13, - 3:35

If you do not have a proof of time to submit, list "N/A" at the point of registration. If proof of time is not provided by November 1, 2013 you will be placed in the last start corral. If your proof of time data is incomplete or cannot be verified, you will be placed in the last start corral. To provide or update your proof of time, you must email all proof of time data requested above to disneysports@trackshack.com. No corral changes will be made after November 1, 2013.

As a reminder, you will no longer be able to bring proof of your estimated finish time to the Runner Relations booth during the Expo and have your start corral placement changed.

I like the fact that the time has changed to help with the corrals. However I am bummed about the lack of expo as I was planning on running a 10miler to help with the time for my mom's half. Going to have to push her on the 10k we do now.

Well shoot....this ruined by plans for my 10k that I was going to use as proof. The St. Augustine one is Nov. 16th. I guess I gotta find a new one.:sad2:

I'm going to squeak right under (well I hope it's a decent time and I finish) the Columbus Marathon is 10/20...

Dburg30 - I am doing the Columbus Full too! Hoping to greatly improve my time from this year's Disney Full (my first full). Where do you do your long training runs?

I heard that there were a LOT of corral changes at the Princess Expo, so maybe they got overwhelmed or had problems balancing the corrals with all the at-Expo changes.

I think requiring proof for under 3:15 for the half is a pretty good idea. I know that lots of people put down 2:46 when they registered just to get in an earlier corral (perfectly allowable and reasonable, especially 7 months in advance of the race). I'm guessing it resulted in a lot of different paces in the middle corrals.

As long as we get plenty of notice for these changes (which it looks like we are) they seem ok to me.

this little part is kinda silly since they are having their own wine and dine half on the 9th they couldnt extended the deadline to allow people to get times from that for this race??

I am just starting the actual marathon training, so my mileage will start climbing soon.. I have a couple of parks that I can get about 5k at, and I have a decent loop around my house that is around 4 miles, so that will be nice to be able to use the house as a pit stop but still have a nice decent amount of distance. Back roads without much traffic..

Worst case if those dont work out, our rec center has a mile loop, granted that would get fairly boring, but also if done when open gives bathrooms and water...

And if you havent please follow me on my facebook page, just is easier to interact IMO.. :)

I completely applaud these changes. I think it will make for a much better racing experience for all! I always thought it was strange they accepted 10k as proof of time for the full marathon...running a 10K is such a different beast then a marathon. I also hope they are incorporating some sort of "fade" when they are taking half marathon times and applying them to the full, or 10K times and applying them to the half.

I applaud them for this. I really hate a bad corraling experience. I wonder if these will also affect Tink and Princess. I'm not too concerned though because even on my slow day i run a 2:09 half.

Will they actually pay attention to the emails to adjust proof of time?

I'm running the WDW full and plan to register on April 9 to make sure I get in! I do have a 10 miler race to submit for corral placement that I ran on Jan 1 this year. But I have a half coming up on April 27. I have gotten faster than I was when I ran my 10 miler and I am sure my half could move me up. So I'll email them my new proof of time. But my concern is, will they actually read it, acknowledge it, and adjust my corral placement based on an email? Anyone have experience of successfully getting moved up from submitting a proof of time via email?

Thanks in advance for any advice/comments on this. I am a huge worrier. I think the changes could be really great overall especially if people cannot fake a time that they cannot run just to get moved up. I always place myself in races back enough where I will not slow down the faster runners, but ahead enough to not be delayed by the slower ones. It just seems fair to everyone.

I am in the I applaud camp! This has been sorely needed. A quick comment on the 10k proof for a full - yes it is crazy but that came around due to a small cut and paste error in the first or second Goofy. Until then the marathon has based on a 10 mile time.

I also agree that their cutoff for internally based race times should include the W&D but I am danged happy to see the expo corrections curtailed. I think that this feature was a great avenue for gaming the system. Though, I do feel for those who plan a 10 miler or so as part of their late season training and may now be shut out.

This should help with the corrals ... I wonder if the RW folks will still get preferred corralling this year.

As a semi slow 14 minute miler, I am very happy about these changes! I will probably end up being right where I was anyway, but should be able to actually run my pace and not have to work my way through the entire corral of people who predicted 2:46. I think once Disney saw that a fourth of the partipants had a time between 2:45 and 2:50, they realized people weren't being honest and it had to change. Let's just hope they spot check.

I think this is a great move and might help with the corrals. It also makes me think that they will actually be looking at the race times and verifying the races since they are requiring such a long time before the race to get in the proof of time.

I know this will be an unpopular statement but I think that the Goofy and Dopey challenges should have 1/2 marathon proof of completion for all participants, not just for corral placement and maybe even marathon proof of completion. These types of challenge races are not for new runners who don't know how their bodies will handle the stress of the runs and being out there for four days in a row running. I think Disney is thinking with their bank account and we as consumers are thinking about the bling but that is how people get hurt. I ran 3 marathons before I even attempted the Goofy challenge and it was hard! I trained for it completely different than any of my other marathons, including running multiple races in the same week to simulate the conditions and running back-to-backs in training. I just ran a series race that was the same as the Dopey minus the marathon except it was in 24 hours (10K, 1/2 marathon, 5K) and while the 10K went great I had stomach cramps during the 1/2 that killed both that run and my 5K time. And I am a seasoned runner! I have run 16 1/2 marathons and 6 marathons and this race was brutal!
So I am glad that Disney is starting to get more serious about making runners more accountable for their times.

I completely agree. :)

100% behind you on this!

Was just looking at the RunDisney blog and they are giving preferred corral placement to the Runner's World entrants again. I guess for 2x the price they are paying for it!

I don't disagree as it is not a bad idea but don't think it is necessary. If someone wants to go out and try, go for it. If they get tired they walk and maybe get swept or pull a muscle, strain, etc. I think they are crazy, but what the heck. Disney is all about the experience, not race times.

It's not like they are swimming and could drown if they can't finish the race or maybe biking and they fall off and not only hurt themselves but others too.

If they want to spend the money and go out there and suffer then go for it.
