Ok I don't know if this is the right board to post in but i have an unusual questions...

My grandparents have a winter home in florida... all our IDs are PA, where our main home is. How could we prove FL residency... would i be allowed to show our florida water/electric bill that has our --service-- address in florida and out --bill to-- address in PA which matches my address on my PA license.

anyone else have a similar experience?

Florida Residency cannot be established by showing a utility bill...Disney won't accept that anymore is what I read. It has to be a state issued (Florida, that is) ID or driver license.

You can't. You aren't FL residents, you're PA residents with a home in FL. You need to produce a photo ID showing you are a resident of the state of FL.

Here are Disney's requirements for FL resident discounts:

Q. What are the Florida residency requirements?
A. To purchase a FL resident Annual Pass or take advantage of special offers, you must provide any one of the following:

Florida driver's license

Florida state-issued ID card (must have Florida address)

Current utility statement with your name and Florida address along with a corresponding picture ID

Florida voter's registration card with corresponding picture ID

A college ID for a Florida college

Florida based Military ID

At least two years ago when I lived in Fla. with my mom, you can get "non-resdient" Florida IDs. That way, you don't forfeit your Pennsylvania license. They look the same as the state issued IDs for Florida residents. Someone we knew was in a similar situation (using the non-resident ID) and there were no problems. That's not to say Disney didn't wisen up to it. Go to the DMV and ask for a non-resident state ID and put their winter address on it. If it works, it works; if not, they're going to have to wait to become residents.

I'm not certain where you got this statement but it is incorrect. A utility statement is absolutely not recognized by Disney as proof of Florida residence.

The following list is a more accurate description of acceptable proof of FL residency.

The following items are the only documents accepted as proof of Florida Residency:
  • Valid Florida State Drivers License
Valid Florida State issued ID Card with Florida Address
Valid Florida Voter’s Registration Card with the Guest's name and address with corresponding photo ID
Valid Florida University / College Student ID
Valid Military ID stationed at one of the Florida Military Bases listed below:
    • Clearwater Coast Guard Station
      Eglin AFB
      Hurlburt Field AFB
      Jacksonville Naval Air Station
      MacDill AFB
      Mayport Naval Air Station
      Miami Coast Guard Station
Naval Support Activity - Panama City
      Patrick AFB
      Pensacola Naval Air Station
      Tyndall AFB
      Kennedy Space Center
      Homestead Air Reserve Base
      Key West Naval Air Station
      United States Southern Command (Miami)
Naval Ordnance Test Unit in Orlando and Cape Canaveral
      Cape Canaveral Air Force Station

That document list that I posted came directly from the official Disney Website, on a FL resident page within the last year. It was in a FAQ section for FL residents. If that has changed it has been recent as it definitely came from the official Disney site when I copied it into a word document for reference.

 I don't know if this is correct info, but it does show this on allears :confused3 :

9/05: Utility statements are no longer accepted as proof of residency.

(Glad I actually do live in FL and don't have to worry! :goodvibes )

I have lived in Florida for over 5 years and a utility bill with a non-resident ID has NEVER been listed as acceptable proof of residence during that time. If it was, I wouldn't have been so quick to change my DL when I moved, lol. :)

Probably a stupid question? But what do you need to take with you to the DMV to get a Non Resident ID? My in-laws live in Daytona, can I go to DMV
and give them that address or do I have to show a bill in my name with the address?

Most of the snowbirds here seem to get Fl ID's. My dad is one of them. Since he goes bike riding everyday for hours, he got an ID with my addy on it, in case something ever happened to him. I'm not sure how true this is, but when he went there the person who he turned in his info, said any senior can do this. Then they qualify for Florida Resident discounts at all the theme parks and attractions. It looks like a driver's license, but it says Fl ID instead.

The ID in question is intended for people who spend several MONTHS each year living in Florida (i.e. Snowbirds who winter here) but maintain a primary residence in another state. It is not really a non-resident ID, but rather a part-time resident ID.

OK this was taking directly from the WDW website at 10:30pm CST on Thursday August 24th 2006.

* Florida DL
*Florida State issued ID card (must have Florida adress)
*Florida Voter Registration Card with corresponding picture ID
*A College ID from a Florida College
*A Florida based military ID

hope this settle this

You can still get a non-resident ID card or driver license without giving up your primary state driver license. I just got one in July and did not have to give up my MD license (which was the whole point). My FL driver license is valid only in the state of Florida.

I would go to the Fla State DMV site for further information regarding state Id cards. Unless you are living at the Fla address for an extended amount of time you really are not a Florida resident and if you stated otherwise you might want to take a look at the note on the Fla DMV that follows.

Note: Giving false information on an application for a driver license or identification card is a third degree felony which may result in arrest, and includes a one-year suspension of the driving privilege. Proof of correct address may be required, for example, cancelled mail envelope received.

I know you want to save some money but maybe we can suggest some other discounts that would allow you to do this. Perhaps AAA/AP would be a very easy ones. In the resorts they often get the same discounts as Floridians. AS for tickets though you wont have as much of a choice, AAA also offers discounts on Disney tickets. Florida Residents with discounted hotel and tickets often are ask to provide proof at the front desk or at the park gates. They will ask for id for every member of your party, except for children. I have been ask on numorous occasions.

Mousesavers.com is an excellent resource for the various discounts available out there.

There are other reasons to have Florida Resident ID besides living there for a major portion of the year. I co-own a condo on the coast with my brother and dad -- when hurricanes hit they do not let you onto the barrier beaches during or after without ID that proves you own property or live there. A FL resident driver license is the easiest way for me to do this -- it was in fact suggested to me by a Florida police officer.

If it states "non resident" then you aren't a resident..the discount is for a resident... at least that is how I look at it :confused3 :confused3

You have stated that very nicely.... and to the point. Unless you are a resident, it is a crime to get one stating you are..that is fraud....

and if one is getting the ID that states non-resident, that is not what Disney is looking for, they are looking for the resident... I do think they are cracking down on this.... and honestly, it is about time

While I am absolutely not advocating lying at all -- how on earth would Disney even know if you are a legit part-time resident or someone who just owns property there? Once you have the FL-only ID or license, that's all Disney needs to see. Seems to me that the better controls wold need to be in place at Florida MVA, not Disney -- to my shock, MVA didn't even ask me for proof of residency when I got my FL-only license (which as noted above, was primarily to gain me access to our condo after hurricanes, etc.) The only enforcable thing I could see Disney do is to not accept FL-only IDs at all, which doesn't seem operationaly feasible given the number of snowbirds, etc. who can truly claim a need for them.

does the Fl only say "non-resident" on it?....
I wasn't aware that they had FL only ID cards? I know they have FL only DL's, but not ID's.. and actually if the CM realized that the DL said FL only on it, they would know that you weren't a full time resident. The full time residents usaully do not keep a DL from another state.. to get the real thing here, you must turn in your out of state DL... so while nothing has been said in the past, do not rely on it 100% of the time.. it would be pretty embarrasing to be turned away....
I would tend to agree with you about the Drivers License Office... they should be a little bit more strict.. I do have to say that when I took my daughter to get her permit (we are full time residnets) they insisited that I have something with her social security number on it??? She had her birth certificate, school ID, library card & I had to show our health insurance card :confused3 God only knows why on that one :confused3 We didn't have her ssn card with us... I am thinking that may be why I had to show the health insurance card???
