Proof of CA Residency?

It doesn't sound like the people OP is referring to are local. There may be hotel/travel/parking costs involved, so worst case may involve non-refundable expenses as well. I believe that most of the people posting in this thread are just trying to be helpful to the OP by providing the best information available at this time, in the same way that OP is trying to help their friend understand what the current requirements are.

OP here. My friend’s DD and her husband are CA residents. Their guests are visiting from out of the country. I was asking about proof of residency requirements on their behalf so they could have all of the available information before their planned trip. I think they would be taking a risk to show up at the gates without CA identification. They would be flying in from Northern CA and paying for a hotel stay. I also don’t think they should be trying to skirt the rules, but that’s just my opinion. I told my friend what I’ve read here and her DD still doesn’t seem concerned. That’s about all I can do.

Sounds like your friends are going, even knowing that they may be turned away at the gates. I hope for their sake that their plans are on or after June 15 and that the CA resident requirement has been lifted by then (no one knows if it will be lifted on June 15 or not, but there is speculation). It would be such a shame for them to fly down and have a hotel stay only to get turned away at the gates. :(

LOL. I swear, I feel like I'm just here to read the drama. Who knew that reopening Disneyland would create this much grief?

But in all seriousness, the reality is that no one knows if Disney will check IDs. There is, however, a very likely chance. There are regulations that have to be followed and if amusement parks want to remain open, they have to follow those. I have worked at a couple of amusement parks and served alcohol and can tell you that checking for a CA ID takes literally no time. If they want to/have to, they will. It's as simple as putting up signs that say to have your ticket, reservation, and ID ready before getting to the gate. They used to check everyone's hotel cards for early entry, so this wouldn't be much different. Sure, some people won't read the signs, but those same people aren't likely to have their tickets ready to go either, so it's not really adding much time.

I think DL will check IDs. This is a mandate by the state of California and DL will not want to jeopardize anything regarding not enforcing/following state-mandated regulations. If you look at the way Disney enforces mask and mask wearing compared to other amusement parks you can see that Disney takes the rules and their enforcement very seriously.

I 100% agree. All it would take is a social media post to go viral that Disney wasn't checking and there could be lots of bad PR. IMO they won't risk that.

As a CA resident who is vaccinated and concerned about variants, going while only CA residents are allowed makes me feel much more comfortable. I have kids who aren't vaccinated and we don't yet know how the variants will change in the future. I am not sure I would be going if I knew that it was open to other states, given that CA has the lowest case rates in the US and that other states are having some surges and TX has a new variant.

So, I have no reason to celebrate it just being CA residents, but I would have reason to be nervous/hesitant if it wasn't just CA residents.

You may have a false sense of security there. California is open to out of staters for EVERYTHING but theme parks. The only way for there to be no concern is if ALL travel in and out of California had been restricted leading up to the opening. I guarantee you people attending the park the same time as you traveled outside the state within the recommended quarantine period.

My thinking is that they'll be strict at the beginning but start easing up. So reports from April 30th may say one thing but reports from June 2nd could say another. I just know that Disneyland is not always consistent with enforcing things (blankets to hold parade spots, viewing for the fireworks in front of the castle, etc). Time will tell.

All that's allowed from out of state (by CA policy, not by DL policy) is vaccinated or negative tested kids. It would actually be safer to have vaccinated or tested out of staters in the park than to have untested and potentially unvaccinated residents in the parks.

I get that's not what CA is doing. But don't kid yourself into thinking it's somehow safer. More trouble for Disney? Of course it would be and that's why they aren't doing it. But it's not safer.

Agreed overall, but unfortunately there is actually no way to confirm people are vaccinated. And if people are willing to skirt one rule, they'd be willing to skirt others. So given that, keeping it to in state may in fact be safer. It's one of those things we'll never actually know.

Keeping it to in-state may also be safer because most of the days have not yet 'sold out' at the reduced capacity. Fewer people = safer no matter how you look at it.

Actually, the rules say out of state visitors who are vaccinated. NOTHING in there about negative tests. Negative tests refers to venues that want to expand capacity. Out of state visitors are bound by "Fully vaccinated persons from out of state may visit or attend activities or events that are restricted to in-state visitors. Fully vaccinated persons should consult the current CDPH Travel Advisory and adhere to any applicable recommendations."

Can I ask what the point of going on and on about California's policies are? Whether you find them fair or not? It doesn't change anything. The rules are what they are. None of us wrote them or decided them. We're simply sharing/repeating what they are. But it always ends up in these threads being closed.

I'm sorry that they rules are what they are for the next 7 weeks. It sounds like there are plenty of other amusement parks you'll be able to go to with proof of vaccination until then. So if you (general you) are just coming on to these threads to dump on the CA rules, but not actually offering anything to conversation, can I kindly suggest you start your own thread for how unfair the rules are? I promise to stay off of it. But I am so tired of EVERY thread about reopening turning into this discussion and being closed.

Sometimes people just like to vent. I’m sure the mods will remove any posts that don’t belong in this thread.

Disney could be adding capacity as we speak. Opening day is now available again if you have a park hopper.
