Proof of CA Residency?

My original question to them was when rumors were flying about the state allowing out of state guests in and information here that CDPH had said it was all or nothing on the COVID/vaccinations. It’s taking Disney an average of 2 days to respond, so their response came after the clarification from Disney that they would not be opening up to out of state yet. It was simply a timing thing.

The question is no longer about about vaccination, so we need to move on from that. The reason for sharing the chat was the part about Gov’t issued ID. And that answer has been consistent across the board from Disney.

They really won’t be doing more than they already have. We all already had to show ID the first day of use on hoppers. Room keys if we were on-site (and yes, often times for every adult), for SoCal tickets, military tickets. Them taking time to look at a DL/ID cards is not slowing anything down.
But you live in state. Why would that even be an issue for you? They never said they were going to make in state residents test or give proof of vaccination.

There were rumors that, if they let out-of-state people in with vaccinations, everyone would be required to provide proof of vaccinations/negative tests. This poster was just seeking clarification because of these rumors.

Just curious because that was not in the revised rule. I never heard that rumor.

It was said on here that somebody who works closely with CDPH was told it was all or nothing. If they required it of out of staters, they had to require it of all. It stemmed from multiple conversations on this board.

I think the bottom line here is that you should have an official CA government ID - either a driver license or an ID card with a California address on it - with you when you go to the parks until the residency restriction is lifted. Everyone with a ticket and a reservation attested (by checking a box) that they and everyone in their party are California residents, and Disney is reserving the right to require a government-issued ID as proof. The only exception that anyone can confirm so far is if you are stationed in California in the military. For that, you can bring your government-issued ID from wherever you live, and your government-issued military papers that prove you are stationed in California. If you don't meet those requirements, you may be turned away at the gates. Take your chances, if that's how you roll...

I think it is silly to expect to cast members to make a determination as to whether an individual is a "California resident".

It's required by the state, not by Disney. Disney has made it as simple as possible, given the requirement that they must adhere to. What would you have done if you were in charge of reopening DLR? Just not open it until the state removes the residency requirement?

I would do what they and every other theme park in California is doing; utilize the honor system.

They very well may do that, but that is not Disney's official position at this time.

Of course, we already know lots of people have been dishonorable because they have posted on these very boards about having tickets and reservations and not being California residents. Not everyone believes that stated rules should apply to them.

Disney has not made an official position, thats why everyone is speculating how they will verify residency.

They haven't stated it on the website, but there are verified chats with Disney CMs.

I would wager that most (not all) of the people who are concerned about how residency will be verified are the ones who are hoping for a way to get around the rules.

I would not consider a cast member saying an OFFICIAL statement from Disney. How many times has a customer service rep for a company give you incorrect information?

Right, it's not OFFICIAL, but the residency requirement is OFFICIAL. You can ignore the chat information if you choose to, even though it was given through the Disney app by a Disney CMs, but don't be surprised if they require verification at the gate, in the forms of documents that the CMs have stated.

Just pointing out that Disney has not made an official statement and you were inferring that they had.

I didn't infer that. What I said was "They very well may do that, but that is not Disney's official position at this time." This was in response to using "the honor system" at the gate vs. requiring proof of residency. Disney's official statement is that "Proof of residency may be required", not that they will be using the honor system.

Also the state never said parks needs to check ID's at the gate. They only need to verify residency for tickets, which Disney is doing online only. And online they are only doing the honor system as people with out California addresses on their disney account can still make reservations.

That is all true. But proof of residency may be required, officially. Would you take that chance, having traveled from out of state? I believe the purpose of this particular thread was just to discuss what may be required at the gate, so that people can be prepared.

No I would not personally take the chance and have no plans to travel to DL until the state and Disney give the green light. But OP is already in California and worst case they can just come back at a later date.

I would really hate for them to get all the way to Anaheim and find out that the relatives aren't allowed to enter the park.

It doesn't sound like the people OP is referring to are local. There may be hotel/travel/parking costs involved, so worst case may involve non-refundable expenses as well. I believe that most of the people posting in this thread are just trying to be helpful to the OP by providing the best information available at this time, in the same way that OP is trying to help their friend understand what the current requirements are.
