I am getting ready to make my ADR's for Sept. Is the "C" in Le Cellier pronounced as a "S" sound or as a hard "c" like a "K" sound? :confused3

luh sell-YAY

that's what my years of french tells me anyway. not that it means anything.

In French, it literally means "The Cellar," which is how I remember it is pronounced with a soft c. Also, per my college French textbook, it should be pronounced luh sell-e-ay. Bon appetit!

it actually translates directly to 'the storeroom' which is often used for perishables (or perhaps wine). la cave is used primarily for a (wine) cellar, or la cave a vin for winecellar explicitly.

grammatically speaking, it might seem like the i should be pronounced, like croupier, but i don't think it actually flows like that. like how the term je ne sais pas is not often pronounced as individual words.

I think it is pronounced . .

. . . lay-booked-up

:lmao: I sure hope it's not lay-booked-up.;) As many times as I have been to Disney we have never eaten here and we are hoping we can get in this time since we will be going during free dining.:woohoo: :yay:

Thanks for the responses on the pronunciation, that makes it easier to remember.

Lay-booked-up :rotfl2: Don't laugh too hard if you're seriously wanting a dinner reservation though. I called today to make my reservations and it was booked for dinner. I'm calling 5 months and 2 weeks before my trip. They were wide open for lunch though.

I used to live in Brooklyn, New York. I would pronounce it Le Cellar and I did when I made me adr's. The cm correct me, luh sell-YAY and I still say LE CELLAR. You can take the girl out of Brooklyn but you can't take the Brooklyn out of the girl. ;)

:rotfl: I've lived in Brooklyn all my life and when I made my ADRs I almost said the same thing. Then I remembered that it's fancy and I had to practice it a few times before I called. :lmao:

Well, it really doesnt matter if you pronounce it "le sell-e-ay" or "le sell-yay" because if you pronounce the "ee" part really fast, they both sound the same out loud, lol. But generally speaking, words ending in "-ier" are pronounced "ee-ay". As a French major in college, I absolutely love pronouncing French vocabulary :thumbsup2 Such a beautiful language!

I called a couple if days ago and got in for the beginning of Sept at 5 pm which was my preferred time with 2 kids - we like to eat early. The CM I talked to indicated they were not booked up even for dinner. We're going on 9/4. :cheer2:

Being from Canada and having taken French all through elementary school and high school I agree with everyone that it is pronounced

luh sell-e-ay

however, the thing that has made me giggle a few times is hearing Disney Dining CM's call it Lah Sell-i-er :lmao:

There are a LOT of CM's who call it "Le Cellar". :) I spoke with one the other day, and he actually said it correctly and I told him how unusual that was!

OR, sometimes the CM's say "Le Cell - i - er".

We're going end of Sept. My ADR is for the 23rd.

On a side note, I called back today to add our friends to our ADR since they decided last minute to join us in free dining. The CM yesterday told me it was pronounced luh-sell-yay, but this one pronounced it luh-sell-ier. I almost corrected her. :rolleyes1
