Check-In Dates:

Please verify your groups are correct, and send me your Name, DISname, address, phone number and email address. I have swapped with many of you before, so I have many addresses, but I may be missing an email or a phone number, so please send.

February 2
February 16
March 1

I have

If you miss a check-in, I will PM/email you. If I do not hear from you 48 hours after that, your spots will be angeled. If you are going to be away for a check-in, let me know. For the March 1 check-in, please be specific with your progress, and list the groups you still need to finish and an anticipated mailing date (If you have not mailed already). I want to have a good sense that you will be able to accomplish your groups on time, or if we are going to need angels.

Packaging: Place your completed element in a Ziploc with your DISname, name and group number. Take all of your baggies for a group and place them in GALLON size bag, and label with the same. Since I am running both the Paper Piecing and Flocking swaps concurrently, please also list which swap that bag is for [Flock or Paper Piecing (PP) ]

Postage: Here are the prices for Flat Rate Priority Mail Shipping. Envelope - $4.95, Small Box - $4.95 (this is a new item for 2009), Standard box – $10.35, Large - $13.95. You may send to me, by any method you choose, but I would prefer to send to you using flat rate boxes/envelopes. However, if you want me to send by a different method, we can work that out. I won’t require Delivery Confirmation, UNLESS you are sending to me AFTER the swap due date. If you want your items shipped to you with DC, please include the $.65, and a filled out slip. If you are in the Paper Piecing swap too, I will send everything back in one box, so make sure you send enough to cover postage for both swaps (regular flat rate should be fine, for most people)

DO NOT include clik-it/ship-it postage. I will not be able to use it since it is only good on the day it was printed, and from the location it was printed.

Due Date: This swap is due March 7, 2009. Your package should be in the mail by February 28 if sending first class, March 3 if you are sending Priority. I intend to only wait one week for packages that have been delayed by our lovely postal system, before I swap out. If you mail, March 8 or later, you must send Priority and you must include DC so I can verify the shipment and keep tabs on its status. I know emergencies can happen, and those will be handled on a case by case basis. However, Murphy’s Law seems to go into effect quite regularly around here. It seems like the longer we wait to start our groups the greater the chances of something bad happening. I will have a hard time holding up the return for someone who has a majority of their work still to do, at a time when they should be focusing on whatever issue is causing the delay in the first place.

Element list
Note: Please no handwritten items. Embellished means: stickers, stickles, ink, chalk, brads, Primas, eyelets, ribbon/fiber, stickles, sewing, additional layers of paper beyond double mats (if it would look weird trying to fit in another embellishment).

One from this list:
*Topper/Title/Signage: Double Matted. Embellished in one way + flocked item. Standard size is 2x8. However, if to get the letters to fit you have to do something like 3x7, or it’s only a short single word, and you want to have an image and the word, and it’s only 4x4, that is fine. (Some of you did something like that on Completed Pages). If your title is a paper piecing, you don’t have to double mat it.

*Library Pocket w/ Tag: Embellished in one way + flocked item. Tag should be double matted, with ribbon or eyelet.

*Paper Piecing: 4” minimum in one direction (H or W), must be flocked.

*License Plate: Double matted, embellished in one way + flocked item. Please be creative

*Shaker box: Must use a flocked item, otherwise be creative

*Lyric/Quote/Poem: Double Matted + layer with poem/lyric/quote. Top Layer should be 3x3 minimum. Embellished one way + flocked item.

*Pair of Borders: 12” in length, but should be able to cut down to 11”. Double Matted. Embellished in one way + flocked item.

*Altered Letter: Double matted, 4” minimum height. Embellished one way + flocked item.

Or TWO from this list (you can mix & match)
*Frame: Double matted, embellished in one way + flocked item. Should be large enough to hold a 4x6 photo. Sizzix frames are okay even though they are smaller.

*Large Box: Double matted, embellished in one way + flocked item. Should be large enough to hold a 4x6 photo, or may be used as a journaling box

*Two Small Boxes: To be used as either small photos or journaling spaces. Consider sizes such as for holding a 3x4, 4x4, 3x4 photo. Double matted, embellished in one way + flocked item.

*Tag: Double mated, embellished one way + flocked item. Approximately 2x3 or 3x4 size, but does not have to be a rectangle. Circles, ovals, diamonds, squares work well too.

*Two Embellished Shapes: Double matted, 1.5" - 2" embellished with flocked item.

*Slide Mount: Embellished in one way + flocked item

*Mini File Folder: Embellished in one way + flocked item

Oooh pick me for teacher's pet. Done 3 groups, just one more to go. My groups are good.

My groups look good. :thumbsup2
Do you need my info or am I in a rolodex?

I don't have a rolodex, which is part of my problem. I know I have your address, but I think that is it, so go ahead and send me a PM. I'm going to print everything and put it on a notecard, so I can clean out my PM box and be organized.

My groups look good! I don't remember if I already pm'd you my info so I'll just send it again to be sure!:)

Looks good to me. I sent you my info. I had a great time spending the day with you lasst week.

Kicky, Tora and my groups are all fine. Haven't done a huge amount yet - hoping to do a little on Saturday:thumbsup2 but we've had major floor trauma so a lot of stuff will be moving from living room to dining room and conservatory over the course of the next couple of weeks so I may be physically unable to get to my stuff :headache:

PM sent

I am here, the groups are correct, and I have sent you my info! Thanks for hosting the flock! :thumbsup2

I just PMed everyone my information. Let me know if for some reason you didn't get it.

Since the goal was "for us is to learn a new technique and/ or perfect our flocking skills" it would be nice to read about what we have been learning.

I would love to hear of some of the experiences people have been having with the flock! What glues are you using? How are they working? How much flock does it take? What kind of flock coverage are you getting? etc.

So here is mine -- my first item was a shaker box with two black flocked silhoutte mickey heads. I ran the heads through my small xyron and then stuck them in the bottle of flock, pressed down, took out, shook, and pressed the flock with my fingers more firmly onto the head. Well, they came out great and I thought "I am a flocking genuis!" :thumbsup2

Then I went to my second item - small cuttlebug animals flocked and placed on tags. Pretty much the same procedure as above except this time I used my Zig glue pen to be exact on what I wanted flocked and what I didn't. Each part of the animal was cut apart of the whole, was flocked in it's color and then paper pieced together. Again they came out super cute, "I am truly great at this!" :goodvibes

So I head to my character. First it was to be Chip and Dale -- they defeated me, couldn't find the right picture, etc. So I thought I will try Tigger - I used my Zig pen, carefully placed glue where I wanted orange flock. Then did new glue and used tweezers to place black flock on the newly glues area. I can do glue-by-numbers, remember I am a flocking genius! Well, it looked like an angora sweater gone bad!!! :rotfl2: Let's just say you are NOT getting any more Tiggers from me!

I think my only real question regarding my items is if they have enough flock coverage. The black heads seem 100% covered but the animals are fuzzy in a more translucent way. How much coverage are you getting?

So my lessons - Keep it simple and if you wish to do several colors then do it like a paper piecing so the colors don't attract to each other!

Hope to hear more from others.

I found less stuck, but was more even, using xyron than using glue with a stamp. And that its really hard getting the flock back into the bottle:headache: I used AWM's tip about pressing it on with a lolly stick, then tapping off and repeating. Bit I still would like more to stick.

After this swap I'll use up what I have but I don't think I'll rush to buy any more:sad2:

I think it is relevant to know what kind of flock you are using. I have both the doodlebug flock and the stampendous flock. I have used both with glue pen and with xyron.

First, these flocks are different. They do not have the same effect in the end. Doodlebug is crushed velvet flock -- and that is what it looks like. THe other brand leaves a fuzzier finish.

I did not like using the glue pen at all, but if you only want the flock in one place, you are stuck with it, unless you paper piece it. I thought it was messy and didn't stick well. To be fair, I pretty much think that anytime I have to use a glue pen.

I work on a clean piece of printer paper for each color of flock. I shake more flock that I could possibly need onto the image. I press it into the xryoned piece with my finger in a circular motion. I shake it off, press some more, shake it off. Clean up the edges. Done. Push the flock into a pile and start on the next one. When you are putting your pieces in the xyron, be careful not to overlap at all.

As for getting it back into the bottle, I curl up the left and right side of the paper, and just tap it, it starts to form a line and then I pour it into the tiny little mouth of the bottle, couple more taps, pour again -- it really all goes back in (assuming you don't miss the bottle, or knock it over -- I've done both!)

That makes sense to me - I was expecting more of a crushed velvet from what I have read but since I have the Stampendous Fun Flock it is more fuzzy looking. That makes me feel more like I am doing it right!

BTW - I forgot to mention in my other post -since my characters are NOT going to be Chip and Dale or Tigger, I have decided on Tinkerbell. I will flock her outfit green with some glitter added. I think that should be fun and work well as a paper piecing.

That sounds nice.

I made my elephants today. I was kind of worried about it after I chose elephants since they are not fluffy animals and I was worried the flock would make them look furry, but the flock went on nice and smooth and they look really good. I used my ink pens in the Cricut and outlined them first and then cut them and the lines show through the flock pretty well. Now which group should I do next?:scratchin

I've got doodlebug, and I used my special "messy" tray which has a spout in one corner for pouring back.

Mine and Kicky's are done and packed, Tora is going to do hers Sunday so I can mail next week:thumbsup2
