Around Buffalo, many of us have a boiler for a heating system - it was invented around here. It takes so long for the thing to heat up and pump the hot water around the house that it doesn't seem to actually help save any money to have the thermostat turn it down at night. I know with forced air heat, it saves big bucks to shut it down, but I'm not so sure it helps with a boiler. Anybody know of any studies? I want to save the gas (and $$), but I'm not sure shutting down a boiler helps - it may even be worse!?!
