Can someone please tell me what the program fees are as of late... I was on the facebook page and someone said it was 300.00 you pay upfront.... is this true... I did the program back in 2006 and it was only 100.00.... Can someone please clarify this for me....Thanks!

Yep, it's $300 now! The normal $100 fee and $200 to pay for the first few weeks of rent so they don't have to take double out of your paycheck.

I think a reason also is to ensure that people who are accepting are serious about actually going to FL. You'd be surprised how many people accepted paid the $100 and didnt actually show up when it came time to check-in. I know my second program at least that 10 people didnt show. Its alot harder to eat $300 than $100. To charge the first couple weeks rent is a LIFE saver when you go down there and don't have a pay check for a couple of weeks. Bringing enough money to live off of for a month is my suggestion. Its always best to have more than less!

When did that kick in?!

Correct me if I am wrong but I think this is the first time they've done it.

I don't like the 300 dollar fee, I prefer them to take it out of my rent honestly. I know how to budget and don't mind them deducting the money from jump.

I know how to budget also, trust me I lived off of pretty much 40 bucks every two weeks after my bills were paid (rent, car note, insurance, computer bill, medical insurance). I'm just saying that not everyone is as budget minded as I or you are.

I'm just shocked, because I was offered my Spring 2011 CP on December 10th (by phone, the letter I got was dated 12/6) and it was still $100. I guess I am shocked to know that a month later it's $300!

I can see why they are doing it. It is pretty disapointing even with money that I brought from home to have a 0.00 on your paycheck. I dont mind paying the $300 up front, although if it was not tax season I might have reacted a bit differently without having my income taxes to front the other $200.

When I did my program in Fall 09' we didnt have to have rental insurance. That is a hassle to worry about!

A similar fee has been collected from Disney College Program Participants participating in housing at the Disneyland Resort for quite some time. It has recently been introduced to the Walt Disney World Resort, as part of the continuing harmonization of policies for all Disney Internships & Programs Participants.

I know about the $100 fee. I was talking about how they up'd it to $300. I personally dont mind it, Its just like a deposit on a apartment. They make you pay the first and last months rent.

It's required now? It's only "strongly suggested" for me.

I wouldn't have minded paying the $300 up front either. I've got some money, but I am not excited about getting a tiny paycheck for my first few weeks of work.

I thought it was required to to live in housing now...hmm I'm not sure. Thats one thing I know nothing about!

Yes it is required now. As far as I know, Fall/FA 2011 is the first program where they are requiring you pay the $300 up front instead of $100.

They ought to update the website. The site still says that renter's insurance is "strongly encouraged"! I'm frantic about getting covered now... I'm so afraid I'm going to get down to Orlando and they're going to just send me home.

I think she meant the 300 is required not the insurance, in fact insurance wouldn't even make sense to require. They can't MAKE you insure your belongings unless they give you back whatever unused insurance money is left, that's like saying "well we know you're going to get robbed so pay for it now."

MY DD just started the CP Spring on Jan. 12th. I know I paid the $100 and rent did not come out until her 2nd paycheck. Yes it was 2 weeks worth - but they did not take it out of her first check.

That's what I thought, but it sounded like Renter's insurance was required now. gotta keep taking deep breaths. I'm just so paranoid that I'm going to lose my place in the CP somehow.

Actually...any apartment complex can in fact require renter's insurance and make in mandatory. It would all depend on the standard policy of the apartment complex. The laws have changed over the years and more and more complexes and units are in fact requiring that the renter insure their personal belongings..some even have a mininum coverage requirement. I work in the real estate industry and we are seing this more and more with apartments. I guess landlords have gotten fed up with renters trying to file claims when their personal belongings are damaged because of fire/flood/etc. All apartment rental units have their own insurance but it is for the premises and not the content within each and every apartment.

The apartment unit would not be required to issue any refund on unused insurance...that is contract that would be between the renter and the insurance company they choose. You can get renter's insurance for any specified length of time - 5 months, 7 months, 12 months, etc.

That said, the fall CP/CS program never required renter's insurance even though several participants received emails that stated otherwise. At no time were we asked to show proof of any renter's insurance. Things might be different for the next program as it seems to be changing with each group.

I recommend you find the information you might need IN CASE it is required, but I wouldn't go out and get it until it is in fact required for housing.
