There will be 9 people in our villa , including one 10 month old. I wasn't planning on getting a room key for every single person in the room but is that how you get pool wristbands? Does very single person need a room key??
Or, do you show your drivers license/ID to get a wristband? Also, obviously no ID or room key for the baby so what about getting his band?

Just give your room number and verbally tell them your identity. They keep track of who was given bands. The 10 month old won't need one as they don't give one to our 1 year old who is listed as a guest. Have a great time! Also, someone would need to verify the DVC membership to get the member band. Once that membership is verified, everyone in the party (reservation) should receive it.

Not DVC members or even renting points. But thanks. So, no ID or anything to get a wristband?

To get our wristbands, we had to tap our room key at the towel hut, the way you would tap into fastpass/lightning lane at WDW. Then they would check the screen and ask everyone's names, then they gave us our wristbands.

Correct. They'll pull up all the names in the room and go with who is listed and eliminate from there.

Over spring break you had to be physically present to get your wrist band, only one person had to tap with a card or with the magic band, give the names of each person getting a band-like a check-in. With 9, I’d bring magic bands or use a room card and go in groups. But YES, you need one room key or magic band, every person gets the band placed ON them at the desk and they ask for every person’s name as they check-in.

We have recently booked a future stay at Aulani - so I am just starting to do research. Can any explain to me the basics of the wristbands?

Beaches in Hawaii are public, so Aulani and other resorts need a way to identify guests for the purposes of their private pool facilities. So you need a wristband to use the pools and get pool towels. You line up to get one every day either in the morning or the night before. They will cut off the one from the day before if you want, or you can just accumulate bands.

Thank you! That is very helpful!! Do they run out of wristbands?

No, it is just for them to identify who is an actual resort guest. Just like any other event that gives out wristbands to identify who should and should not be there. Your family goes down to the hut, one person scans their room card and they physically put the bands on everyone's wrist. You only need a wristband if you are planning on using the pool/pool lounge chairs/beach chairs. You do not need them just to walk around the resort or eat.

Oh no, definitely not. But sometimes it’s nice to get it the night before so you don’t have to wait in line the next morning.
Do you know where we’d need to go and at what time they start giving out wristbands for the next day? Also, for towels, do you need to turn in a towel to get a fresh one or is there a self serve area like at other Disney resorts where you can return towels and get fresh ones? Thanks!

The main towel hut is located near the entrance to the lazy river and near the kid's playground - see map here: https://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/aulani-map.pdf - if you look at the second page, the hut is at #17. I think there is also one at/near #21, labelled on this map as "adult pool", though it is not functioning as an adult pool right now, it's for everyone. You don't need to turn one in to get a fresh one; there are towel return dropoffs all around the pool areas. But I have heard that they try to give out only one towel per person at the towel hut.

In terms of time for the next day - we were at the station around 5 or 6pm and they did give out the wristbands for the next day. I'm not sure if there's an official time. Either way, getting the wristband the night before is not strictly necessary, the lines move quickly anyway, but it saves a few minutes the next day :)

Thank you so much for all the great and detailed information!
