Problems with Runkeeper Pro Live draining iPhone battery?

Are there any others that had this problem? I turned off my 3G, and turned the phone off until moments before my corral went and my battery was dead by Mile 14! :(. I am looking at getting an external battery in the future as insurance, but I really love the updated Runkeeper Pro Live as it was a lot better about keeping people notified about where I was on the course, since the text and e-mail service had some hiccups. I tested it the day before and it lasted 8 hours so this was just weird and inconvenient.

My DH uses run keeper pro on his iPhone. He uses it for all training runs & races. For the full marathon (both last year & this year) he attached an external battery to his iPhone. Worked fine & lasted for the entire race.

I used it during the half with 3G on and didn't have any issues. I was listening to a playlist and I had coaching turned on. I think I had about 40-60% battery life left after the race. I didn't use my phone to take any pics during the race. A friend used it during the full and she used her phone to take pictures during the race. I think she started getting the low battery warnings as she approached the finish in Epcot.

Do you all use Runkeeper Pro Live - where you pay the extra fee so that others can see you on the course? I can't turn off both wireless and 3G since it needs that in order to keep your position from what I read. But, the 3G definitely takes up more battery life in general so I thought turning that off would help some. I am certain that it would have lasted the entire race if I didn't use the Live feature.

It was really tough getting through the last part of the race - luckily I ran in to Robert from Disneyrunning.com otherwise I really think I would have gotten swept! It is amazing how much music helps during those dismal parts of the Marathon course.

I had a problem when I used Runkeeper Pro during the half - it kept turning off and didn't get all of my run - it was less than 2 miles each time I realized it wasn't working anymore. I used the Runkeeper Free version on Sunday and had no problem with it keeping track except I forgot to shut it off a the finish line.

I and my friend both used the Pro live so that our positions were pushed out to the course. They did an upgrade to run keeper sometime last week. I installed earlier in the week and my friend installed it Friday and she had a different version than me. I am not sure if the different versions had an impact.

I did not have a battery issue with runkeeper pro/live during either race. I did turn off wifi, 3g and regular cell antennas as well as all pushes and services with a locater function. I ended up with 28% usage on the half and 60% on the full.

Oh, I also reached up and hit the sleep button as soon as I knew the run keeper was active. Run keeper will run in sleep mode once it has started to run. It will keep power to the screen if you do not sleep the screen. Big big waste of energy

That is probably what happened to me. I don't think I set the sleep button, but I may have. It was so early that I was only about 50% awake. I will try it with wifi and 3G disabled to see if I have better luck during my longer races. But, may get the external battery regardless. It would be good to have so that I could read or play games while waiting in the corral. It seemed like such a long wait this year. I really wanted to read through the kindle application but didn't want to use the battery. Thanks Coach!

I think my problem on Saturday with the Runkeeper Pro is that I never put it into the background so everytime I got my phone out to take a picture or video I somehow made the Runkeeper keep shutting off. I made sure to put it in the background on Sunday so I wouldn't be able to accidently shut it off. I don't have an IPhone but I do have an Android so same concept. My battery was getting low after the full but it made it the whole time and died just before I got back to the room.

What's the difference between the version I downloaded on my android phone for free and the pro version? And how do you keep it running in the background while you are taking pictures?
Sounds like I should be ok with battery life if I'm running the princess 1/2 right?
