This afternoon the father of the boy who made the threat called me. I felt really sorry for this poor guy, he and his wife are just devastated that their son has done this. He told me they have been worried for some time about the company their son has been keeping. He apologized profusely and said the principle had done an in house, two day suspension. Meaning this kid stays in the office all day for two days with no recess, p.e. or social interaction. They agreed with this but feel the other boys should also be punished which I agree with too. He and I discussed that his son is actually a lot like my son and just trying desparately to fit in. His son is really excited about the lunch group. The other three boys involved say they won't go, we'll see about that! One of the boys kept flipping my son off today and then thankfully got caught. I of course have not heard from these other three parents and don't expect to. Its funny, because all along I was surprised that the boy who made the threat was the one who did it since the one time I met him he seemed like a pretty nice kid. Guess he is having his struggles too. His dad said they are thankful that this was caught when he was 10 and not further out of control. Matthew is feeling much better. I think it really said alot about that dad that he admitted his son had done wrong and called me. I told him I didn't know which parents to feel sorrier for, them or us!
