Problems with infected college computers

My son's college roommates have been back on campus for 2 days and my son has been trying to communicate with them through IM. They have been off line for 2 days which my son thought was rather strange. We just found out the reason why is that there are so many virus infected computers that the kids have come back to campus with that they had to shut down ResNet. They are frantically trying to correct the problem but won't try to get back on line until at least Monday afternoon. Hope your son or daughter's college isn't having the same problem

Another problem could be a person email account is full of screened emails, if the ISP does that. I have Comcast and it screens. Yesterday I found 94 emails in the screened folder online, 89% of my emails capacity, without being downloaded to my computer. Since then, about another 15 or so have been screened. Had I not checked it online, I would not be able to recieve any emails and any sent would be bounced back to sender with a 'full' message.

Dan, how do you check that?

Bet, you have to log on to the web interface for your e-mail provider and check it there. If you're popping your mail into Outlook you'll never know what has been screened and held through your ISP, if they offer that service.

My college too is denying network access from any infected computer. The network is already infected and they're saying that if you haven't been updating Windows and virus software you WILL get infected as soon as you're hooked up to the network. If your computer has anti virus software and all the current Windows updates you're fine. Shutting down the whole network seems extreme, but I guess they gotta do what they gotta do to get rid of this thing.
