Problems with Cascade dishwashing gel...

I am SO glad I wasn't the only one who tried this. After I posted I had this "WHAT did I just post?!" moment - like, these people will think I am totally off my rocker. I feel much better now.

And I'm glad to hear this info was useful! I never call companies about products, but this was too frustrating, and TOO expensive to just toss the bottles!

Oh, and to the person who mentioned putting the bottles in warm water in the sink, yes they mentioned that to me too. Unfortunately, with the big bottles I have, they mentioned it could take more than 2x 1 hour before the stuff goes back into solution (and interestingly enough, they couldn't/wouldn't tell me what the crystals were, although I am SURE they know).

Every dishwasher repairman I have ever met (unfortunately I've met more than one!) recommends powdered dishwashing detergent only.

Same here! The gel detergent and even the powder cubes with the dawn dish soap in them will slowly clog the dishwasher.

How so? I'm just curious what it is that does this?

And why is the liquid or gel version any different than the powder?

I'd love to learn more if anyone can share!

ACK!! Now I can tell my DH that I'm not crazy!!!! I fought with that stupid bottle for 30 minutes one night and even cut the top of the bottle off. I thought maybe Cascade had changed the formula or something. I ended up throwing out the bottle a few weeks ago. Thanks for the info!

Well, I am just laughing hysterically here. Two nights ago I had a fight with a new cascade bottle. I used a knife to get the white top ring off.....when that didn't help, I too tried squeezing with my knees!! Stinkin' stuff wouldn't budge out of that bottle. I was sooo annoyed, I called to complain right then. Of course they were closed at midnight.

We had the same problem with a large bottle of Cascade Gel that we bought at BJ's Wholesale Club. We took it right back and they gave a us a new one. Customer service said told us that there was a problem with a large batch of them.

FYI powder works better. When you get your replacement get the powder. Dh is an engineer for dishwashers and that's what they recommend based on all their testing.

There is an article on washers and dishwashers in the NY Times. They don't recommend powder or gel but they did say that most people are using 10 to 15 times the amount of soap they really need, and that is the biggest cause of equipment problems.

I was having problems too. I had gotten my detergent at Giant and I had two bad bottles. This was at least a month ago. I currently have a bottle which is fine but if I get another bad one I'll call too. It was very annoying.

When I complained about it I was told it was from the freezing during shipping, and could be reversed also. Place the bottle in a sink of very hot water for 4 hours, change the water every hour.

I tied my handle and put it over the side of the hot tub for few hours and it did liquify again.
But I am hoping the white crystal residue is no longer on the clear glasses. It was not food scum water residue, this was thick and where it lay could scrap off. Like what forms on the outside cap of the bottle.

The Cascade complete is not having the issues, nor are the gel pouches.
I through out the first bottle thinking it was too cold under the sink, not that anything else had problems, just I thought that material was touchier....

Okay, an update...it turns out one of the other bottles I had (did I mention I stock up when things are on coupon?!) is completely watery - when you pour it out, it looks like a little bit of white-ish gel floating around in a pond. So the problem can evidently be either the crystals I first experienced, or it can be this watery nastiness I now have. I think I'm over the whole Cascade Gel thing at this point. Big thumbs down.

Oh, and the kicker - I had five (yes, FIVE) giant bottles of Cascade from BJ's originally. P&G is sending out a total of four coupons. So I either have to use this watery crap or hope one of the two unopened bottles is better, or just be out the ~$9 the fifth bottle cost me. Honestly, I won't buy this stuff again EVER after this hassle.
