Problem with Tips

Maybe we need to know how to write "mousekeeping" in spanish!!

Most of the housekeepers I've run into during our trips have actually been from Africa.

It's nice when they're Hispanic because then I can at least try to ask for things in my broken Spanish.

Back on topic: I've never had a problem getting a housekeeper to take a tip.

MouseKeeping is not considered a tipping position.:surfweb:

:) Can we not turn this into a debate on if we should or shouldn't tip housekeeping? Two of the last four posts have stated that houskeeping isn't tipped. I don't want to see this thread closed because people start aruging about it. I'm just looking for ideas on how to get housekeeping to take a tip.

I don't think any one is arguing :confused3 You wanted to know why housekeeping didn't take your tips that you left for them, the union contracts that they settled last year stated that it wasn't a tipped position & accepting tips was grounds for firing. I'm not arguing whether or not it should be a tipped position, just saying why your tips were left untouched. :goodvibes

In over 15 trips to WDW I have had only one time that housekeeping didn't pick up their 'tip'....still not sure why. Anyway..I now use the paper from the notepad on the table. I write 'thanks' on it, with some impromptu Mickey heads, then fold it in half and put the tip in that. I leave it on the vanity counter.
It is true that housekeeping is not a tipped position at WDW. But, the majority of housekeepers seem to have no problem accepting the offered tips, and most of the guest to tip on a regular basis.
Now, there have been a few instances where I have not tipped. When I get back to my room at 4:00 and the beds are unmade and the towels are still in the tub, well, no tipping that day. I just remove the tip I had left that morning.

Has anyone else had the problem of the Mousekeeper not taking his/ her tips?
On my last stay at the CR I made up the cute envelopes for the mousekeepers and turn down service but every time I returned to the room the room was clean and the tip was still there.
Some days I even taped the envelope to the mirror or pillows but still no luck.
Should I just chuck the envelopes?

I think some religions do not allow taking gratuities. Perhaps this was a reason?:confused3

Really? We've always left tips but ...Man, I don't want to get anyone fired. :confused3

I don't want to create debate but thought I would throw my "inside" information out there. When I worked as a cast member in 2003 I was in a non tipped position. At THAT time the Disney rule was as a non tipped cast member I COULD NOT accept a tip from a Disney guest. However, there was a clause that if the guest offered the tip 3 times and I said "no" and then they offered a 4'th time I could accept. I don't know if these rules have changed. I would maybe ask the mousekeeping or ask at the front desk what the rules are for tipping so you can follow them? Just a suggestion. I know when I was a CM I was scared to accpet a tip because we were told that if we were seen taking a tip and not following the rules we could be fired. So now I always ask CMs what the rule is if I want to tip them - that way they get their tip and I am happy.

So what's the rule on leaving a CM, maid in this case, a small gift. I normally give them a candle, a mug with some tea, bath oil beads, etc plus a tip. I too wouldn not want to have someone lose their job.

That is very nice, the difficulty is you often get a different house keeper everyday, or could get the same one then a different one the fifth day. Disney isn't going to fire a house keeper if they take a tip, the union contract states they will, I believe this. Its probably there so the workers understand they are not to be tipped, don't expect it. Disney doesn't want their guests thinking they have to. On the flip side, there is just no way they would ever fire a house keeper for taking the money if its clearly labeled for them. Some may not take it though out of respect for the contract.

Last year at Pop we had a wonderful "mousekeeper" if she wasn't allowed to take tips then she sure took a risk when she left us a note stating "tomorrow is my last day of working during your stay, I am off on Monday & Tuesday" She obviously wanted to make sure if I planned on giving her a lump sum tip at the end of our stay, that we knew we needed to leave it that very next day!:confused3

Just finished making mine. Too cute, IMHO.:rotfl:
