I am having a problem with my Canon T2i. My shutter speed will not go above 200 when in TV mode and when in manual it wont go above 200 and it wont meter.

I thought it might have been a problem with the lens, so I switched lenses and it didnt help. Every once in a while it will start working correctly, but then goes back to not working again. There doesnt seem to be a pattern.

I has been happening on and off for a week and now seems to be happening the majority of the time. I am going to try to take it into the local camera shop and have it looked at but was curious if anyone might have any direction for me.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post.

Is this perhaps when the flash is on? If so that is perfectly normal. The type of shutter a DSLR uses prevents you from shooting much faster when you use the flash.

I was thinking the flash as well. Maybe one of the contacts isnt working in the body housing making it think it is up?

I agree with the others, the T2i flash "sync speed" is 1/200
There are ways to get around that but try shooting in Av or manual mode with the flash off.

No the on camera flash is off when I am shooting. It is happening in TV, AV and manual.

I have tried with and without my speedilite in all of those modes.

I am thinking it might be something to do with the body to lens contacts because sometimes if I remove and replace the lens it will work for a short time and that makes sense if the it is thinking the flash is up.

Does anyone know if this is and an easy fix or something that means I need to send my camera off. I have a birthday and vacation coming up and hate to be without a camera.

Thanks again

I would clean all the contacts on my camera and lenses to ensure a good contact. I use a pencil eraser then dry wipe it. Make sure you are holding the camera face down so no debris falls into the body.

What kind of speedlite have you used with it?

Thank you all for the great suggestions. I cleaned the contacts with a pencil eraser and cloth and it is working great now. I really appreciate the help with solving my problem - you guys are awesome.

Photo chick - I use a speediite 430EX II.

Thank you again for helping me fix my camera - not sure how
I would survive a day without it!

Have a great day
