I ordered a gift for my Dad online 1 1/2 weeks ago. When I ordered the item was in stock. Tonight I receive an email saying the item is out of stock and will ship late December. Late December could be December 31st! They have already charged my CC.

I thought I was done with shopping! What should I do? I tried to call, but they closed at 11 pm est. I called at 11:01.

I am a little peeved that they charged my card when they haven't even shipped my item and it is not available. I have already mailed my Mom's and Brother's gifts to my parents house.

I guess I just needed to vent. I guess I am mostly that they charged my card 4 days ago. And I just receved the email today.

Thanks for letting me vent!

did you get an order confirmation email? stating the item would ship when etc...and that it was in stock?

I'd call first thing in the AM and have them credit the card IMMEDIATLY...none of this 2-3 billing cycle crap either! (thats the business, NOT the card doing it!!!)

Good luck!

oh- just checked my sears account...I ordered for my DD6 tonight, received the confirmation email, my order has been processed set to ship tomorrow, but no charge on the sears account yet.

See that's the whole thing I am mad about! They charge my card 4 days ago. And no confirmation email until tonight. And it stated that my item was out of stock and would ship "late December". I assumed (stupidly) that since they charged my card that my item was being shipped and the email was on it's way. I DO understand about the holiday's and being busy, and running out of items. But don't charge my card until the item has been confirmed in stock and ready to ship.

I will call first thing tomorrow morning.

I think I can offer a suggestion, since this very thing happened to my mom, who tried to purchase a gift for me! She ordered from Amazon.com in England because I wanted the adult UK version of the Harry Potter books which are not available in the USA. She got a notice that the books had to be back ordered and that they would arrive the second week of January! Bless her heart, she was so upset about this. She told me what happened, and frankly, I'm thrilled that I'm getting the books! I sure don't mind that they are coming two weeks late at all! I would recommend giving your Dad a nice card explaining that the gift you ordered for him was backordered and will arrive in a few days. In addition to the card, get him a small token gift, such as a box of his favorite candy, that way he has something to open on Christmas Day. I'm sure he'll understand! :)

Yes, I know my Dad will be understanding. It's just the whole time frame for the billing and THEN the "out of stock" notification that took 1 1/2 weeks to get!

I thought most places charge your card once the item has shipped, does this site happen to mention that? I don't buy too much on-line but Sears doesnt have many toys at their stores, and since they match prices it was worth it tonight (plus free shipping!)...

I would be livid if they charged my card 4 days ago, and THEN told me sorry, it's out of stock!....Around christmas time, we use our cards more than ever, and can't imagine having to WAIT for money to be credited, especially since you now need to purchase another gift..

Good luck, let us know how it works out! and if they are jerks about it, please let me know WHERE you ordered from, so I stay away!

I would definitely try to call tomorrow since they already charged your card...that just doesn't seem right. I ordered a few things from the disney store about a month ago and when my order came in, I had a note saying that one of the items was out of stock, that my credit card had not been charged for that item, and that the item would ship in a few weeks and then my card would be charged for the item.

yea i was wondering also where you ordered from. most reputable companies do NOT charge your card until the order is on the way, amazon.com included, or atleast that is their POLICY. sorry to hear about it though :( good luck.

tricia.

I'm interested too, on what company would do that. It doesn't seem to be normal business practice to me. I am sure I would call and insist on a credit immediatly.

Good luck and could you keep us updated on how it goes?

I've ordered lots and lots online and they (meaning different on-line stores) charged only after it was shipped. Let us know how it went with your phone call. Hopefully the e-mail was the mistake and not the charge!

I thought that companies charged as they were shipping an item as well. I would be on the phone as early as possible as well. I am sure that your Dad would understood if you wrapped up a little box with a note in it.

I am also interested in know which company you are talking about so that I may be more careful in the future.

Good luck and please don't stress too much over him not getting his gift in time, he will understand.

Well, I just got off of the phone with customer service. She said that my order was shipped on 12/9. My card was charged on 12/11. It takes 7-10 business days for the order to arrive. I will wait a couple of days and see if if it arrives. Hopefully by Wednesday.

She said the email that stated out of stock probably stated that because by the time they sent it is was out of stock (if that makes sense). She apologized for that.

So if my order arrives in the next couple of days then I am happy. :) The email was messed up, but that can happen.

The company is Plow and Hearth. :) This is what I ordered for my Dad.

All for a bunch of nuts! ;) :p :D He will love it though. :)

What a nutty misunderstanding for a bunch of nuts. :hyper: I liked her response though. I hope it gets to you in time. :hyper:
