One of our tvs died, and we don't have cable/satellite, just stream everything with Roku. We bought a smart tv last night, thinking it would eliminate the need for Roku and the extra remote. Playstation Vue did not come loaded as one of the apps. Found out that any additional apps you want to load, you have to download them to your phone and run them through it. So, I have to use my phone to find my shows, etc. and anyone who wants to watch tv through Playstation Vue also has to download the app. I mistakenly assumed I would just be able to download apps directly to the tv like I do with Roku.

Are all smart tvs ran this way??

My Samsung TV links to my WiFi. Do you not have WiFi and are you using your cell phone as a hot spot? My Smart TV does everything in the TV once you link it to the WiFi.

My tv has everything that I need loaded, amazon, netflix and I can access the internet. Sometimes I screen share my phone to thr tv because it's easier than using the internet on the tv to watch something on youtube or facebook.

I don't think they are meant to have more apps than what are already there added. If you need it, I would google to see if there's any tvs that either have it preloaded or if you can download and then return what you got and buy the other.

Can't you continue to use the roku you already have?

ETA check to see if Sony has it on their tvs since playstation is a sony product. Would probably be why it's not there.

The tv is linked to our wifi. It just appears that to download additional apps, you have to go through your phone and "cast" them to the tv through ChromeCast, you can't download them directly to the tv. I want to be able to view my Playstation Vue guide on my tv, not on my phone! I think this tv is going back to the store, just trying to figure out which one I need to be able to download directly to the tv.

I could just use my Roku, but I feel like it defeats the purpose of paying extra for a smart tv.

My TV has a web browser built in, which I probably should have mentioned in my first post, so everything is done in the TV. Only thing I have noticed is I get notifications on my Android phone for an App that lets you turn your phone into a remote control for the TV. As I am a dinosaur with a landline phone, my cell phone gets turned off when I am home so I have to use the remote that came with the TV or the Dish remote

Several companies sell Roku integrated TV’s, TCL and Hisense are two off the top of my head as decent value sets.

I think this is what the OP is going to need to look for. We have an LG and a Samsung and I looked at both and they have the exact same apps and nothing that would work for what you want to do. I think to get playstation or even roku integrated into more tv's they will need to become more mainstream like Hulu, Netflix and Amazon, which are on both tvs along with google play movies & tv. Otherwise it has to be done through the internet or a share screen from your phone which is super easy.

I realize Playstation Vue isn't going to come as a preloaded app on any tv, but could it be downloaded onto a tv with a web browser built in? From what I can tell, this Vizio doesn't have a web browser, which is why everything has to be ran through the phone.

TV's come with apps already loaded and a quick search shows no TV's with Vue preloaded. You will have to use either an actual streaming device (Roku, Fire Stick, etc.) or "maybe" use a Roku TV (I say maybe, because the Roku TV may have limits so I would research that before buying). Apps cannot be dowloaded to TV's*.

*High-end Samsung has this ability but only for a couple apps and Vue is not on the short-list.

Smart TVs are all different. We have an LG and a Samsung and they both have preloaded apps but also additional ones you can download. I have no idea about Playstation Vue specifically because we don't have a Playstation. We don't have to use our phones for anything...I'm not sure what brand you have but typically that's on cheaper brands I think. We have an old Vizio (not a Smart TV) in our garage that we had to buy Amazon Fire TV for so we could stream Netflix, etc and I remember reading online that if we wanted to watch YouTube on it we would need to cast it from our phones.

No, not all TVs run that way. But as you found out some do offer more apps to load and others don't. And even if you have one that can load other apps you still have to check if the app you want is available in that app store. In particular, the PlayStation Vue app is only supported directly on a few TVs. From what I can tell from this supported devices list, you'd need to find a ROKU TV or an Android TV; the rest of the list are all extra devices AFAIK: www.playstation.com/en-us/network/vue/faq/supported-devices-and-set-up/

If it's a ROKU TV or Android TV built in it'll be listed as a feature of the TV. Sony has several models with Android TV: https://www.sony.com/electronics/smart-tv-features-apps-and-internet

ROKU TV has more models than I remembered: https://www.roku.com/roku-tv

With both you'd have to make sure it supports the right version for your app as listed in the PSV support page. If there are other apps important to you then you'd want check those against the model too, to whittle down the list.

Thanks everyone for the help! I ended up returning the Vizio, I just did not like it. Ended up with an LG, which I'm happy with. I did have to go ahead and connect it to a Roku box for the Playstation Vue, but it does support all the other apps we use which is nice.
