probably a silly question but...

If all the guide books and all the helpful people on this site suggest you get to the parks early, then go back to your resort for the afternoon, then head back to the parks for the evening... Just wondering, if everyone did that, wouldnt the afternoon actually be the perfect time to go?

Not everyone visits these boards or reads the guide books or listens to the suggestions :). Personally when I go to a park I'm there from morning to close unless I'm with a party pooper who wants to leave early. I was just there last week and the afternoon rush was still in full force. At around 11ish the parks just fill up (they're fairly slow in the mornings), then that lasts til a little after the sun goes down. You can tell by line lengths. I go on the rides I love when I get there several times with no to short waits, then the afternoons I sort of tinker around and do the less popular stuff or eat. Then I go back on the rides I really like at night or closer to close time (depending on what time of year it is). The hour before the park closing the rides are virtually empty so it's great. You can walk on rides like Splash Mountain over and over and over again with no wait.

Agree, most people do not study up enough before their trip. They sleep a little later, and then get to the parks10-11 and stay the rest of the day.Afternoons are always the most crowded. The get there early, take a break, and return in the evening is very good advice! :earboy2:

Not really, as people start leaving in early afternoon they are replaced by those who slept in, or came from an early entry park, or want to see the afternoon parade. The numbers really don't drop at all.

One of the guide books (Ithink UG) said that in a typical day, about 95% of the people visiting the parks don't read any guide books, visit websites, or do much planning at all. Just by logging onto websites such as DIS, or reading UG or Passporter, and using even a few of the tips, you will be more knowledgeable than the vast majority of park visitors.

Well, we're early risers anyway, so I know we will do the, afternoon back at the resort, thing. We would need that I would think just to recharge. My only problem now is, it is taking sooooooooooooo long to get here. I think I am more excited than dd lol.

We ended up arriving at 9am and staying until closing. I had planned breaks into the day, but the kids' kept wanting to stay. They were just so excited to be there. As long as it's still fun, stay. As soon as it stops being enjoyable and starts being work, then you take a break

Before kids we would just stay all day. But w/ DS we get in early and get tons done. When we were leaving the park around 2pm there were super long lines and big crowds trying to get in. You can get so much more done if you go early. We're never there at 'opening' but we're usually out of the hotel by 9-9:30.
