I had arranged a trade with someone on the DIS (my first ever trade). I put the pin in a plain white envelope, stuck it in the mailbox for the carrier to pick up and didn't worry about it any more.

DH, comes home and checks the mail BEFORE the postal carrier gets there--sees a LUMPY, plain white envelope, and takes it out. He then notices I am sending it out and holds it until we actually "see" each other (for more than 60 seconds) and informs me that most people wouldn't accept that type mail from a stranger plus it might get caught up in the post office's machines and so I need to mail it another way. HUH????????

So anyway, today I went to the post office at lunch, and paid $3.50 to send it priority.

How do you all mail your pins to each other???

That is funny. I mail my pins first class insured. The insurance is $1.10 plus how ever much the envelope weights. Try it.
Oh I forgot use a Brown Envelope with bubble wrap inside. You can get these at Wallmart, Kmart

we all live and learn..I use the brown envelopes with bubble wrap inside them..you can get them at walmart for $3.47 for 10 envelopes, (the smaller ones work just fine with only one pin in them) Staples also carries them but they are much more expensive there!..I wrap each pin in a small piece of bubble wrap, enclose an index card stating the pin name and my name..and mail it all...it costs about $.45 or $.57 to mail one of these first calss mail..(I also write DO NOT CRUSH on outside of envelope!)..insurance is $1.10 for $50.00 worth of insurance..hope this helps!

I use bubble envelopes, with bubble wrap surrounding the pin.
I have rec'd pins in fine condition in a regular white mailing envelope, with the pin wrapped in paper towels. But personally I just feel more comfortable with the bubblewrap.
I sell my used books on half.com. They suggest writing below the address "half.com order." I have written on some envelope trades, "Pinpics" or "Trade", something to that effect. But most people know they are expecting a trade.
I insure if the pin shipment is over $10, generally. Not a steadfast rule -- but just rule of thumb.
Knock wood -- I have not had a shipment lost yet.
