Probably a dumb question about rebooking onboard....

We didn't do it...are seriously considering 2006 but may be on points--could only book late 2005 and then switch it....now I'm regretting not doing it....is there a window of opportunity, even a week, where I can call and rebook since I was just onboard? I'm guessing not, but hoping for the best. If so I have 2 more days.

Hi Robin,

DCL didn't do this for us. We returned home from our 4/03 cruise to find the extra tax return check for that year in our mail. We decided to place it down as our deposit for the following year 4/04. We called DCL immediately. We rebooked under one week of returning home. The DCL reps suggested sending DCL an e-mail. We e-mailed DCL but to no avail.

We transferred our reservation over to All Seas and saved over $900 anyway!

Good Luck.
:)

That's what I figured. I am seeing items on the DVC boards about discounted points as well, which Danielle never mentioned when we said we might use DVC....guess they don't really want to deal with that. Oh well. When we get a firm date I'll shop allseas, dreams, etc.

Check out my post about discounted cruises using points. It's about the 5th one down or so.

The DVC will offer repeat cruisers a discounted points and $$ price if you book it within 3 business days of the 11 month window of the cruise you wish to go on. You do not need to book it onboard.

Robin,

There was a thread back in February about rebooking with DVC while on board and I never even knew that we could. But, I also seem to remember someone saying you didn't have to sail again in the 11 month window but could tell them when you wanted to book and then call when the time came (11 months) and book.
Did I misunderstand something - or even your original post? I am sailing in September this year and was hoping to book for December 05 using the reduced points.

You cannot actually book with DVC points while on board. You have to pick up the "discounted" points chart, then you have 3 business days following your cruise to call DVC and book at the discounted points rate. The only thing the onboard salesperson can do is give you the discounted points chart.

If you are rebooking with cash, you MUST do it while on board. No grace period at all. Several years ago, there was a grace period, but no more.

Can I get the discounted points chart if I didn't get one onboard? It was never mentioned.

We never talked to anyone about rebooking when we were onboard. I just called the DVC number a few weeks later, and they were glad to tell me what the discounted points rate will be. We cruised in June, but can't even book using our points until Dec., but she said that as long as I called within 3 days of the 11 month window, we would get the lower rate.

I'll call DCL next week about it. Of course I can't book until August of 2005, so I'm putting the cart before the horse, as they won't have 2006 points out anyhow! But according to the post about discounted points, I would get use about 10% fewer points--hmmm, maybe that would even out the point increase I can count on for 2006!

This post really confused me so I called DVC just a few minutes ago and spoke with Vanessa. It was my understanding that to rebook on points you have to call within the first 3 days after you get off the ship - if it is within the 11 month booking window you can go ahead and book and if it is outside the 11 month window they will add a note to your record so you can call back and get the discounted rate once the 11 month window arrives. I am cruising in September and want to do the western in Dec. 2005 and was told to call DVC the Monday after we get off the ship and tell them the dates I want to cruise, a note will be added to our account and in January I will be able to book using the onboard offer.

Hope I understood correctly (I believe I did) and this helps anyone else.

That was not the way it was explained to me. I called a few weeks after we got off of our cruise. I was quoted one amount for points for a cruise in Nov. 2005. But when I mentioned that we had gone on our first Disney Cruise a few weeks before, she said "Oh, so you will be repeat cruisers?" or something like that, and then gave me the lower points amount. She then told me that I will have to call within 3 business days of the 11 month window to get the lower rate. Then she gave me the actual date to call and book it. I hope she didn't give me the wrong information because we are planning on doing the cruise on points to celebrate our anniversary.

Okay, I decided to call DVC and ask again just to make sure that the information that I was posting was correct, and the person that I spoke to verified what I was told before. He told me that as long as you book the cruise within 3 days of the 11 month window, you get the reduced points rate. He said that they would just call DCL to verify that you were a repeat cruiser and that there wouldn't be a problem. I asked him if anything had to be notated on my account and he said no. I guess this is another one of those cases with DVC where you get a different answer every time you call!

Is this true for ANY repeat cruiser or does it have to be a recent repeat cruiser? We sailed on the Wonder in 2002 and are planning another cruise for fall of 2005 (Sept, Oct or Nov), will this reduced point rate apply to us? I will be booking it at exactly 11 months out.

thanks for the help!

You would have to call and ask them. I had called them a few weeks after our cruise, but I really don't know what they would say if it was a few years later. Sorry I don't have an answer for you.
