Prix Fixe menu sharing?

It's not bashing to point out one of the many faults of the DDP. People have a right to be informed. As confirmed already, many places will not allow you to share a meal on the DDP (will very depending on server or restaurant) ; but, they can not stop you from sharing OOP. At least be fair.
Sure they can stop you from sharing. What is it about the DDP that makes it inherently easier to stop someone from sharing? If disney wanted to stop people from sharing, they would. I shared on the DDP on my last trip and no one even blinked.

I believe you pointed out what you find to be three faults. My reason for addressing that was because OP wasn't asking for opinions on the good and bad of the Dining Plan and frequently these threads become sidetracked from the original posters questions - and I saw that happening.

Honestly I can't think of a single reason why Disney would care if you share on the DDP; but, it is one of the many ridiculous unwritten restrictions of the DDP. I asked a manager why it isn't allowed and he couldn't give a real reason why not other than to say it just isn't permitted under the rules of the plan. No one is making this up. The fact that someone actually even had to start a thread asking this question and other people have verified it show it's a problem.

Agreed. Sharing is allowed in all but a few select locations. It seems as if the Dining Plan gets blamed for all problems guests perceive about Disney dining in general. While it is not the best choice for all - I read so many posts about how restrictive and what a poor deal it is for eating as if somehow those using the Dining Plan just aren't fully aware of what they're doing!

OP did not ask about sharing on the Dining Plan just mentioned they would not be using it. The original question was about sharing prix fixe meals. Sharing with or without the Dining Plan is done at all but a select few locations. Many have verified this.

Actually with the exception of via Napoli and of course aycte meals, I have never been discouraged from sharing with or without the dining plan. Disney chefs routinely split the meal in the kitchen to assist

The only place I have ever had problems is T-Rex. And i've heard opf problems at Via Napoli. At every other restaurant for the past 6 years I have traveled to Disney, we have never had an issue with sharing. And we share a lot of the time. Our servers have been super gracious. In fact, one of my best servers ever was at one meal at Chefs de France when all we ordered was two prix fixe kids meals for the 4 of us with DDP credits. We ate the food my kids didn't want (we had eaten elsewhere) and went through several refills of delicious baguettes(we weren't expecting it - but he insisted and kept bringing more). He got a big tip after that and that meal still remains a highlight for us.

I was looking at Coral Reef and Chefs of France. I have a 13 y.o. DD that eats very little and kids meal would not appeal to her

I would order her an app and ask that it be brought with the entrees. I doubt anyone will give much side eye to sharing the pre fixe dessert (since everyone shares dessert) and very little side eye for sharing a few bites of the app while everyone is having bread...

And if she hates the other menu apps, but likes the pre fixe one - have her order one you like, ask for her app to be brought with the apps, and just swap them. Anyone asks and you say she didn't like her selection...

Your statement is inaccurate. You must have had a unique experience, but you can not generalize from that. With all but a rare (Via Napoli) exception, sharing IS allowed on the DDP/
The question was specific to Prix Fixe meals, which is a unique subset.

From many experiences, Via Napoli gives 0 cares if you share OOP. I have no idea about the DDP as the only time I used it was before VN was even there!

I'm not sure what part you think is inaccurate. Many people have already verified that the majority of restaurants will not allow sharing when using the DDP. I am happy that you enjoyed a unique experience; but, it is far more likely you experienced an inattentive / untrained or a server that server was working for a good tip and didn't want to hurt their chances by following the ridiculous DDP rule. Again, I'm not the one who started the thread in the first place nor am I one of the multiple posters that have also told you sharing is usually not allowed.

You are the first person I've seen say that Disney has not allowed sharing. I have seen it often at via Napoli and occasionally at other non-disney owned restaurants, but I've never read about it anywhere else. There is nothing in the DDP literature that addresses sharing at all. In fact it states explicitly that you are to specify how many meals you are spending credits on... they don't say that every person at the table must use a ts credit at all times. Of course that is the case at AYCTE but not at regular menu service TS. And wouldn't forcing someone to order their full entitlements for everyone at the table increase the tip? so why would servers encourage sharing if they are all about increasing their tip? it seems that they can only see their tip decreased by people doing that.

Multiple posters have stated that sharing is not typically allowed in prix fixe menus outside of wdw... but a couple of people have verified that they were able to specifically at Disney.

We share all the time on the dining plan and off. I have a 12 year old tiny daughter and we usually get 3 meals to share among the 4 of us and then her credits (when on the dining plan) are used to afford us more meals!

The only place I have heard of having a problem is Via Napoli and since we prefer to just order a big pie, we have not had the need to try the dining plan there.

Out of pocket no venue will "not allow" you to share...how are the going to police that???? We have even been encouraged to share a platter at Whispering Canyon when only two of us have ordered it (the other two ordered something else) and they even brought refills after it being shared.

The only places you cannot share ate buffets, family style meals, and shows.

I think your experience/understanding of not being allowed to share meals is the unique experience - not the other way around.

You are correct, and I should have been more specific.

Personally, I have to preference all my dining posts that involve $, that I have no idea about the DDP, it doesn't work the way I eat at all, so its a useless construct, but I can certainly talk about dropping cash by eating what I want at WDW!

Me too! DDP or no DDP....I manage to eat and eat well!

You all are doing a fantastic job keeping this thread on topic, rather than allowing it to get totally derailed by DDP discussion. :rotfl2:

It is hilarious to see how far DDP lovers will go to prove their point despite all evidence to the contrary. God love'um. :love1:

To the OP: I don't see why you couldn't share. Since it isn't an all you can eat meal, go ahead!
