We're a new DVC owner and are giving our points to a deserving family :grouphug: to use this year, so we won't be with them. Do they get any of our owner perks such as pool hopping privleges or discounted golf? If so, do I send them with my member card? Kind of afraid it might get lost. Is it easily replaced if so?

BTW: They like to fish, is there any fishing at SSR?
Thanks

The guests are not entitled to DVC discounts or pool hopping. It is true that their room card will have "DVC member" on it. I have had some of my friends show it to get (and they did receive) the dining discount at some places. They had read the Perks book, so figured they would give it a try.

I wouldn't give my DVC card to anyone.

Any fishing at WDW is catch and release. You can rent a pole at POR and at FW, I don't know if they rent poles at SSR.

The fishing question: Depending on the kind of fishing they like- they can do a boat/fishing trip from the marina at DTD or if they want to do it Tom Sawyer style, they should boat over to Port Orleans and rent poles.

If you were staying with your guests, they could pool hop with you, get your dining perks, etc. But since you are not going, they don't get any member perks. They do get the same WDW resort guest perks, though.

I think the fishing from the marina is pretty expensive. Years ago when we used to do the Platinum package and it was included, DH went from the Contemporary and I think it was over $200 if you paid. Of course that was over ten years ago, so I might not be remembering correctly, but you called and said you wanted to go fishing then you met the skipper at the dock and off you both went. DH had the boat to himself, that's why it was so expensive. I'd check out the current prices before I suggested it.

Please DO NOT give your member card to ANYONE! That would be a BIG mistake. it has your member number on it. That number should be treated much the same way your bank account password is!

We took a couple with us last December and they were given 10% off a pontoon boat rental because their room card said DVC member. We were not with them when they rented it and they didn't ask for the discount. They just gave it to them :confused3 Maybe the CM was just being nice :thumbsup2
