Private school?

I have been following the discussion on this thread. I noticed several people mentioned a teaching certificate and degree etc.

I wanted to clarify that a teaching certificate means that you took a test (usually the Praxis) for your subject AND specific age level you want to teach. Not only must you know your content, the test also covers pedagogy or how kids learn in addition to classroom situations where you must prove you will not put students in danger etc.

I am not saying that if you do not take this test and pass it that you can not or are not a "good teacher". Nor am I saying by passing the test you are a "good teacher". I actually believe teaching is an art! :)

I just wanted to clarify what it means to have a teaching certificate (it doesn't necessarily mean a degree in teaching). In some states you can have a BS degree in something other than teaching, take the test, pass it, and teach!

(I won't debate the public vs private vs charter vs virtual. I have taught in ALL of them! and have a child who has attended THREE of them! :rotfl:)
