Does anyone know of a good private insurance (that has PPO) that includes good maternity coverage? The maternity coverage can be extra but that is what I am looking for overall. I graduate (and lose my insurance) in Dec of this year and want to get private insurance before I get pregnant to make sure everything is covered.

Any info is appreciated.
Thanks

Are you planning on working after you graduate? Many companies have decent policies that include maternity riders and are much cheaper than paying out of pocket monthly for private insurance.

The kind of policy you are wanting without it being a group policy, will most likely cost you an arm and a leg. You could talk now with an insurance agent that sells private policies to see what is out there. That way, there is no pressure for him to sell or you to buy, but he can estimate the cost (it depends on where you live, etc.) and give you suggestions.

See if you can buy an insurance policy from your college. Most are for a 1 year term, so if you purchased it prior to graduation it would cover the term until you got settled into a new job.

I will be a sahm once I have the baby. Both dh and I had stay at home parents and I think that was invaluable and want to give our kids the same thing.
I know that the insurance would be expensive but for me to purchase more insurance from my college will cost over $700 and that is only for 6 months (and only because my dh will still be enrolled as a grad student). plus the same amount for the kid when we have it. So for that amount of money I'm figuring it won't be that much more for private insurance and atleast then I will have my pick of drs instead of being required to try and get an appt at the school clinic.

you might want to see what kind of cobra provisions your current policy offers-it may end up costing less than private insurance.

also remember that while a ppo offers choices in doctors you usualy have a deductable to be met as well as a share of cost on every test, appointment, procedure. 10 percent may not seem like a lot but when you start adding up all of the pre-natal appointments, routine bloodwork, sonogram, let alone one extra night in a hospital (i had a no problem delivery but because i was running a temp. for several hours following delivery they decided to keep me and the baby another 24 hours) you could be looking at several thousands in out of pocket expenses.

if you have a particular ob-gyn in mind check and see what coverage they accept (and actualy the insurance billing people in their offices are pretty good at telling you which policies offer the best coverage), but also check with your desired pediatrician to see what coverage they accept (if you end up with an hmo type of policy they often won't let your child see a doctor outside the mom's medical group).
