Private Cabanas at Magic Kingdom: Last Day to Rent One - February 17, 2017

Ehhh...I think it gets pretty iffy here. Disney is def. taking away space, walking, sitting, standing etc. space, which seems like not a big deal, however I think it does say something to what Disney's willing to do to make more money and I do think it def. impacts guests on busier days. Also, providing reserved viewing is also in a way taking away the opportunity for a non-cabana buying guests to reserve that same viewing, whether it be via fast pass, purchasing dessert party etc. Yes, def. not a big taking away, but it's still not Disney taking nothing away from a regular guests either, and the potential for what else this could lead to is there.

To reference your United situation...the same applies, for example, I used to be able to sit in the garden of MK to watch Wishes for free with a fastpass, and now I can't without purchasing an "extra, or add-on" of the Wishes dessert party. So, yes something was taken away from the regular customer.

In the case of MK, no this area sits pretty much obsolete. I often will be walking over to SM and comment how that big plaza there is such a waste of space (as is Tomorrowland Speedway) and think about what all they could be doing with it. Yes by the speedway there are table/chairs but it is so sunny there, no one hangs out much. If they add to DHS and AK they will likely be part of a plan, not taking away anything and at Epcot, lots of spots especially in FutureWorld that would not remove anything that guests use. A perfect spot would be a row of them on the walkway between Imagination and the World Showcase where they put the playground. They would be off the path on the "grassy" space. They could be cute tiny houses with the area enclosed with picket fence. :-) and there are bathrooms right around the corner.

:wave2: Just dropping in to explain that discussing "Shares" is allowed but there won't be a separate thread at this time as it's still considered a "test."

If those interested in "Shares" add Share and their date in their post, a search using the Search option can be run for "Share" within this specific thread.

Good luck to everyone! :-)

Thanks so much!

Share, December 31, 2016 Epcot Cabana, New Years Eve

Hi. I know that the cabanas in Epcot haven't been confirmed but reading some posts it looks like they may open before NYE.
If Epcot begins selling cabanas for NYE, I am very interested in doing a share.
My family has four people and my kids are 18 and 23.
I'm not exactly sure how many people the cabana holds but we can do a price per person.

Just throwing it out there! Happy Thanksgiving all!

For just a little more you could have a studio at BLT for Christmas night. For less you can have a studio at VWL for a NYE night. So an actual room on property that you can go and lay down in with AC and a pool. I guess not for 8 people though. This only makes sense with 8 adults who are all chipping in.

Based on what I'm reading here, these aren't going to last long. Then again, Disney knows how to separate people from their money, especially those who have it to burn on something as dumb as this.

SaW the ones by SM Sunday. There were some at HS last night too. I hope if they catch on, they do make them permanent structures. They just look tacky stuck in the parks.

I know I've made a couple more Posts to this thread, but they are missing? they weren't controversial. :)

- I have no interest in a pool, rarely use them.
- Someone who booked was told they have A/C.
- I don't want to waste travel time, especially to VWL in addition to my rest time.
- Some of our party will continue to tour while one will wait with member who needs a break.
- Great for those short stints of time a small child might need to regroup.
- Nice place to feed or change a baby.
- Great if you have an elder member who wants to rest while rest keep going.

There are many reasons this is a better option than a hotel room.

I would add bag check, I know they don't take tons of times but if you are bringing large bags it's a slight inconvenience

I think that's not possible in today’s society anymore due to social media and everyone can know everything and people demand to get the same experience as others.

If Disney had a special thing accesible for everyone, let's say Flynn roaming around for a short period. Then some people will be lucky, some won't. It is posted online and a demand will be created. But disney does not have enough friends of Flynn to create a daily/weekly schedule. Therefore to prevent guests from complaining, 'my friend met Flynn last week and I want it too,' it gets cancelled again or limited to parties or against payment in general. I'm sure roaming characters caused many complaints over the past few years.

The only way to solve it is to communicate about it and say 'this is a limited/exclusive offer at x price'. I think it causes less complaints.

Disneyland handles roaming entertainment quite well. And, on top of that, the character interactions we had there last week (the more the 30+ of them that we had, and we were NOT character hunting, and only had 1 character breakfast) - were head and heels better than any of the interactions we've had at WDW. Social media doesn't seem to have killed it there at all.

Disneyland has about half of the attendance of Disney World.

Now I have seen everything. Cabanas in a theme park?
If you are going to make a place to recharge and relax why not make it for everyone and not charge for it? Construct a "haven" for guests to put their feet up and relax. Tom Sawyers island would be an ideal place for one to go if they redid it with more covered seating and a small concession stand. Having it out in the middle of a theme park is silly.

Why not utilize prime park space for more attractions?

Basically there seems to be someone (or a team) of people in the Parks department of Disney whose job is to increase revenue with low overheard.

And they just keep dreaming up more ideas ..
Think about all the things they've added. Dessert parties, reserved seating for parades, Cabanas, Early Morning Magic, etc.

All things they keep trying out because the cost to "try them out" is minimal (not much infrastructure cost and maybe redirecting a few cast members) but the price they charge is big.
They are "quick hits" .. low hanging fruit .. that can make them money in the short term and even if they fail, there isn't that much invested in it.

I guarantee we are close to very exclusive "paid" meet and greets and other things like it (well, now that I think about it. The Tiana dessert party and Cinderella's Castle dinner is like that).

Whatever this team can dream up as an extra revenue maker without having to build a whole new attraction, will probably get tried out.

Because attractions cost money. A tent does not.

The person whose post I quoted was making a statement not based on crowds, but on social media. Social media is just as - if not more - prevalent in Los Angeles and Anaheim as it is in WDW. If social media were the cause of the problem, Disneyland would have an issue as well.

ETA: And Magic Kingdom compared to Disneyland...to make an apples to apples comparison of roaming entertainment within a single park - MK had 19,332,000 people in 2014. Disneyland had 16.8 million. Less, yes. But 1/2 the number? no. (And that's before the 60th celebration attendance went way up at DLR last year)

I think the difference between Disneyland and Disney World is not just attendance, but the audience is different. WDW is a destination in itself, while DL is part of a vacation and more targeted at locals and shorter stays.

And if social media were the cause of the roaming entertainment issues, I would tend to think that would be even more of a problem in a park of locals than a park of tourists.

ETA: I'm not saying WDW and DLR aren't different. They are. I'm just saying I think social media has absolutely nothing to do with the lack of roaming entertainment at WDW.
