Prints from Photopass+

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct forum, so please feel free to move it if I'm not.

My family is going to DisneyWorld for the first time in December. I keep going back and forth on whether or not to order the photopass+ package. I've read all the information I can find about it, and I'm pretty sure that for us it would be a good value. But, I cannot find an answer to the one question I do have.

After I get home and download all my pictures, am I allowed to print them myself, or take them to someplace like Walgreens and have them printed, or do I have to order prints from Disney's photopass site?

Also, I read on one of the information boards that you only have 30 days after your trip to claim your photos. Does this only pertain to downloading them to the CD, or does it mean I have to order prints from Disney within 30 days?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

When you purchase the PhotoPass+, the package includes a PhotoCD. One of the images on that CD will be a release that allows you to print the photos for personal use. You can print them at home or send them to a photo center like Wal-Mart or Walgreens for printing.

There are two deadlines with PhotoPass. You have 30 days from the date the pictures are taken until you claim them. You claim them by adding the numbers from any PhotoPass cards you've received in the park to your PhotoPass account. (You'll have your PhotoPass+ card, but if your group splits up on any day you may collect other PhotoPass cards that you'll want to also add to your account.) Once the photos are associated with your account, you have another 30 days before they'll expire and be deleted. If you need more time, you can purchase an extension.

Before your photos expire, you'll need to complete any editing (cropping, adding borders, etc.), order any prints you want to buy directly from Disney, and order your PhotoCD. The PhotoCD that comes with your PhotoPass+ package will include all the photos in your account at the time you order it.

Just a reminder! You probably understand but we didn't at first, even though we read it! After you recieve your CD you will not be able to add any more borders! So we did alot of different borders on our favorite pictures! It can become very time consuming!LOL! It doesn't matter how many pictures you have so make it worth your while! Use all the disney photographers you can find and tell them you want some shots with the special effects, like holding tinkerbell in your hand! Also, take your camera and don't rely on just them for your pictures! Most are very happy to take a picture with your camera also. Sometimes my husbands pictures were better! So I was happy to have both!

My sister in law handled all of the photo ordering last trip, even though we were support to go thru it the next weekend, so I'm not sure how the system works. Are you able to upload any of your own photos and add borders too them? If so would it be possible to upload a white box (4x6, 5x7, 8x10 etc.) and apply all the borders to it. Then it would be possible to drop it into photoshop as a layer and apply a (darker?) transparency or delete the white to it and use it in other photos.

No, you cannot add those borders to anything you upload. There might be a couple of borders they let you use (I just don't recall) but I do know the borders they offer for the shots they take are not available for uploaded photos.

It really would be nice though. It really is a huge PITA trying to guess what you will want later and saving them all on such a slow site.

Photos you upload won't be on your PhotoCD. They have a separate CD you can purchase for these photos, but really, uploading is only to get photos into the system so you can use them for prints, PhotoBooks, or other products.

The reason they don't allow you to add borders to your own photos is to stop you making your own pics look as if they were taken by PP photographers. While YOUR photos may be great, those of some, taking photos on phones and iPads etc, may not be so great, and that would reflect badly on their own photographers .... and do them out of some considerable earning power on their product in the future. It's a great idea and one we'd all love, but it's never going to happen

Valid point that I really didn't think about, although I think most people would still order because of new borders and year change. That said I'm sure the vector versions would end up online, probably creating a bigger problem for them. I was looking at it from the hassle/time factor. I know my SIL spent a few hours working on them and actually ordered a few photos with borders only (not the photo only ) Actually I don't think I would apply them to many of my photos. I guess if I really want I could outline some of the footer border type and use that. Do you think most, non-Disney, people actually know that disney has people shooting those photos, or do you think they think the person posting/shoeing the photos took them?

oh and instead of ordering your photos to Walgreens or Walmart go to mpix.com about the same price way better quality. plus you can do and large enlargements and sometimes if you really up for it they frame for you too another great thing if you have a great photo of the castle or lot of light they have this paper called metallic which makes it pop.

I would agree that most of the Photopass pictures that we liked were ones that I had the photographer use my camera & my settings. Overall, I am not that impressed by the picture quality of Photopass. I have seen too many pictures that are not properly exposed, blurry, or poorly composed.

Personally I would use Photopass to supplement my photo taking, I would not rely primarily on Photopass photographers to document my WDW experience.

I totally agree. Using Photopass exclusively is setting yourself up for disappointment. I use them, but really just as a backup. And because I do like adding some of their borders. But 95% of the time I use the shots I took.

1) No limit. I've ordered PP that has been delivered on 7CD's and never have fewer than 4. You can add as many photos as you want to - your only restrictions are the 30 day time frames for adding cards to your account and for adding borders and placing your order

2) Again, no limit. DD and I came back with over 100 ride photos last trip and there were no issues.

I would think a big group would benefit more from PP than from a small group/family if getting lots of photos on there is important to you. You will only get one PP+ card though so when you split up, you'd all need to keep your ride photo stubs and someone would have to be responsible for going back and getting them added to the card before you leave the park. You can add regular PP cards to the plus account with no issues so you may want a few of these for when you split up
