Princess Weekend 2023 (Feb 23-26, 2023)

I'm feeling not so excited today. Got some flak last night from the other cheer moms, since DD is missing cheer practice to go on the trip (which was booked before cheer comp season was announced)

I'm looking to change flights to come home a bit earlier but it is $$$$ and the kids are NOT happy. We'll see...

Not so excited, but still excited nonetheless :) See you on Friday!
Honestly, in 20 years your kids are going to have better memories of spending a fun trip with their Mom at Disney than a couple of extra cheer practices.

Don't change your flights, enjoy your trip.

That's very...um...dedicated of them 🙄 You should tell them the trip is cross-training for cheer 🤣

Yeah, especially since DD is running the 5k. We'll go scope out the cheerleading competitions at ESPN (if any) for inspiration instead.

Thanks for that. It's exactly what I needed.

It comes from experience. My Mom got comments for pulling me out of softball and basketball practices when I was young for Disney trips.

Guess what? I don't play either of those sports anymore, haven't seen any of the people I played those sports with in decades, but I still have stories I talk with my Mom about from those trips!

I need to share with you guys, mostly because family/co-workers/friends up here either (a) don't care about running, or (b) are tired of hearing me blithering on about it of late. So...

1. Excited that this is the week, and that we'll be driving down on Friday
2. Looking forward to seeing y'all on Sat at HH and (if I can find you) early Sunday morning
3. Did 4 miles yesterday and finished mile 4 really strong. I'm sure that to a passing observer it would have looked like I was in slow motion, but to me I was flying! (like 9-min mile per my watch). And that is on the neighborhood hill course.
4. As I've been getting back up on the training plateau, I'm feeling better and with more energy. I tell people that it is counter-intuitive, but working out more makes me feel less tired and have more energy, instead of the other way around.

Another comment for fellow runners with athesma. Mine is on the mild side, and I rarely use an inhaler other than a couple of puffs before a run. That said, my lungs also seem to "train up" after a (long) while and start to tolerate the exercise more. When training for the Dopey last year, I went to the greenway one warm afternoon and realized I had forgotten my inhaler. Instead of abandoning the run, I went anyway to see what I could do. To my surprise, I was able to put in 5 good miles without falling down gasping for breath. I was shocked, and I don't do that regularly, but it was nice to see. So I used my inhaler yesterday, but post-run was still breathing better afterward as my training has progressed.
So just a word of encouragement on that front. YMMV

This is really great and I can completely empathize with feeling like you're boring non-running people with your travails. Keep in mind that this is a safe space for you to share without ever feeling like you're oversharing!

Enjoy your trip w your family and make awesome memories! There will come a time when they’re all grown up and trips like these may be few and far between.
When I was their age my parents took us to WDW and even though I am 49, I can still remember those trips with great fondness and much love. My parents are elderly now and can’t travel to WDW anymore bc of health and mobility issues and so I have those wonderful memories of us as kids and young adults enjoying Disney w them.

How many corrals are there for the 5k? I put in the slowest time group because I was traveling with 5k newbies, but after our training we probably should have selected the next group. We are all 511XX. We plan to be on the first bus and to head to the front of the corral.

For non-Marathon weekend typically 3.

Bibs (some are unassigned, but a general idea of field size)

Challenge - 8104
HM solo - 10103
10k solo - 5567

HM total - 18207
10k total - 15670

Those are both a decent field size.
Wow. That's almost 5,000 more than last year's Princess HM!

If comparing finisher numbers to bib numbers yes. Better comparison is finisher to finisher. We should roughly see 3,000 more if things are similar to Marathon Weekend.
I just saw that this terrible storm is going to wreck havoc through Friday morning. I wonder how many runners are not going to make it to Orlando. Good luck to all of you traveling here for Princess weekend.
