Last year I stayed at YC and managed to hop on the worst bus EVER...no AC, hour bus ride, wrong way, etc. Anyhow, I know that was just luck of the draw because they hire out the job for morning transportation. This year I am considering staying at the Polynesian and didn't know if the monorail operates this early or if I will need to catch a bus to the starting line again?

Thanks!

It'll be running! I was at the Grand Floridian for Marathon Weekend this year and got to use it...it was sooooo nice. :goodvibes

I stayed at the Poly for my first Disney half, and it was the perfect place to stay, both in terms of getting to the start (yes! to the monorail) and for spectators. I think the benefit in terms of spectators having a couple of really easy places to watch you from within walking distance is at least as big of a benefit as the monorail is for the runner.

How is boardwalk to get there? I know going back we can cut through Epcot.

I would guess with Boardwalk you're in the same situation as any other non-monorail resort - 95% of the time the buses are just fine, and 5% you end up in a minor pile of suck (though still generally make it to the the race start without major incident). If you have an AP or plan to use a park entrance that day, going back through Epcot works if the park is open by the time you finish (or you loiter around the finish area until it is) or you can take the bus back.

For Boardwalk, BC, etc. you have to use the bus to get there. It was really nice cutting through Epcot to get back to the room though and I was able to cheer on those that were still running! I always know that the more I keep moving after the race, the better my legs feel.

I'm thinking of staying at a monorail resort (BLT) but nervous about the monorail breaking down or not running on time to get us there for the start! Anyone had any trouble with this in the past? :(

I know buses can break down, but...
