Princess 1/2 2013...anyone else???

I am in!!! I started working out, not running much til about a month ago. I have lost about 60lbs with another 20 to 30 to lose...I have always wanted to run a Disney race, I just finally decided to do it and set my sights for the princess one....I would love to get my coast to coast medal that year but we will see how it goes....I am trying to decide which plan to do, it is between Jeff Galloways walk/run or c25k..right now i am just trying to condition then I will decide...I am so glad I foubnd this thread, need all the support and motivation I can get.....

Congratulations on your weight loss! That is awesome! :yay: :woohoo:

I'm in a similar place to many of you. I turned 39 yesterday and have struggled with my weight for most of the last decade. I've never been athletic and tend to binge and stress eat. :guilty:

When I would get serious about it, I would drop into a healthy weight range, but within months I would fall off the bandwagon and put it back on.

About two years ago, I added walking and that helped me feel better, but didn't really help with the weight.

During 2011, I started the Couch to 5K with a friend and have managed to keep off 25 pounds. Since early fall, I've run three 5Ks. I'm so amazed. Prior to this year, I had NEVER run more than a mile in my life (and those mile runs were a long, long time ago), I had no idea I had it in me. Our max run at this point is 7 miles. We aren't fast (about an 11 minute mile) and it's probably not pretty, but we can do it. :thumbsup2

I am currently in training for the Indianapolis Mini Marathon in May. I hope and pray I'll be able to jog the entire thing. It's pretty scary and I think we both lack confidence a bit, but we're working on that! We're also going to work on improving our eating habits. We think that we are holding ourselves back with our "not so great" choices and hope that improvement there will show in our runs.

That brings me to Disney. For a couple years, I've been hoping and planning for an all girls trip to Disney to celebrate my 40th birthday (Dec. 31, 2012) with my three sisters. As of right now, I'm not sure how many of the sisters will really come and I'm a bit bummed. Then, I was reminded of the marathon in January and I'm getting a glimmer of an exciting possibility. I would love to be fit and fabulous at 40 after all these years of struggling with myself. And it would be perfect to celebrate that in my Happy Place! I can't guarrantee the trip is going to work out or that I'll be ready for a marathon by then. But, I'm going to aim high. :wizard:

So, I hope you all don't mind if I hang out with you while we work on our fitness goals! :cheer2:

Welcome! 11 min mile is awesome! I hope I can get to that speed. :goodvibes

I wanted to give a big Congrats! to everyone in this thread for deciding to take this on in 2013!

I am running my first runDisney event in February for the 2012 Disney Princess Half Marathon. It's technically my 2nd half, but I couldn't train/perform as well as I wanted to due to an injury.

If this goes well, I fully plan on coming back for 2013 (5 year anniversary, after all!), hopefully with my best friend (who is running it with me this year), and 2 of my sisters-in-law!

Good luck on your 1st Princess Half Marathon!! :goodvibes

New year, new me!!!

I am officially starting my training and meal plan for Princess 1/2 2013.
Today is day one.
For now I'm going with the timeline of the 2012 dates for the 1/2 so I have about 400 days or so. I know it will go fast, the Everest 5K did too so I need make sure every day counts.
I'm glad to see the thread is still moving and more people are interested in going.

They will probably announce next years race at this years race, at least that's what I think I remember.

Hi, I'm aiming for the Princess 1/2 in 2013...I will be turning....ummm...i can say it........40 that month and thought it was a great goal. Anyone else with me??

I have just started a walk/run clinic in town and have a bunch of weight to lose first. I am loving running! NEVER, EVER thought i'd say that!

YES YES!!!! :woohoo: I am turning 40 about a week after the Princess 1/2 in 2013, and I decided last summer that I would be running it! I've had a bunch of injuries this year, so I'm going to take it slow and steady in 2012! Ran 2.58 (intervals) today.

Now I'm off to read the other 5 pages of this thread!

Anyone else live in a cold weather state. I am doing fine using my treadmill for now in the Pre training. but I worry that I will not be able to stand the boredom of running 10+ mile on a treadmill in my living room for training in the near future. Does anyone train outside in the cold?

I live in CT and I do my shorter runs on the treadmill (mainly because I don't like to run in the dark and that's all I can do during the week due to work) and save my long runs for outside on the weekend. In the 30ish degree weather we've been having, I've been wearing a long sleeved shirt with a lightweight fleece jacket over it, and long pants to run. This leaves me plenty warm once I get going. A good rule of thumb is to dress like it's 20 degrees warmer out, eg if it's 50 out, dress for 70 degree weather.

haha I hate this warm weather we're having in New England. i'm afraid it'll be time to run next winter and I won't be used to running in the cold!

Count me and my friend in for 2013! I started running couple years ago, and wanted to try the Disney race...my friend will be turning 40 couple weeks after the 2013 race, so I dragged her into it ("come on! it'll be a great way to celebrate your milestone birthday!"). She was a bit down about turning 40 before, but now she told me she's actually looking forward to it! She's just beginning to run, so early this year I'll be helping her run 5K, and then follow Jeff Galloway's plan later in the year for the half marathon in 2013.

We're soooo excited since it'll be just us girls (no husband or kids this time - hey, we love them, but we need girl time), and we'll be planning our trip starting this week. I'm hoping to surprise her by taking her out to lunch at Cinderella Castle after the race for an early Bday celebration...I know it's really hard to get to, so I hope I can get ADR!

Speaking of which, can anyone give me an idea of how much to budget for the trip? We were thinking about staying 3 nights at value resort and get 3 day park hopper tickets.

Welcome! :cheer2: A dinner at CRT would be an awesome birthday dinner! I'm hoping to plan to same... 3 nights value w/ park hoppers... but I haven't priced anything out yet.

Excited to find this thread! I am in for 2013! I am training with a friend who is a fellow Disney lover. We will be moving (military) right around race time in 2013, but I am going to make it work! I started training this week and we are also planning to run the Army 10 miler and San Antonio Rock n Roll half this fall. Good luck to everyone!!!

I'm in!!! I may be walking it, but have started training already. I, too, will probably be walking/running alone, so I'm hoping to find some Dis'ers to meet up with. This will be my first race ever!!! :woohoo:

Looks like my MIL will be doing the Princess Half with me. I sent her a whole ton of info, and I think she was a little :scared1:, but it'll be okay. I'm pretty sure she walks at least a 16 min mile right now, so there's no telling what she'll be like next February.

COUNT ME IN! This will be my first distance over 5K. :thumbsup2

I'm 37 and have been needing some goal to get me back in shape. Being a past track coach (although I was a sprinter and jumps coach) I am somewhat aware of training, etc. I am however, apprehensive about running all that way! :lmao:

Nice to find this thread and be able to talk to some folks about things such as pace, etc. It's also nice to see the word "walk" is some of the posts. I've never been one of those folks that like to run long distances. My specialty was distances up to 800m. I'll be a run/walk kinda gal. So, I have been to the gym for a week and have completely changed my eating habits. (I've gained 25lbs since my last fitness craze, and those lbs need to go!) Don't forget those weights, ladies...they help with your fitness goals too!

Any suggestions on running a 1/2 marathon? I am a competitive person, but completely know that I am not going to be in the top five of my age group! I've ran plenty of 5K competitions and even a biathalon. Will I look like an idiot walking? :confused3

Hi everyone!

I decided to do the Princess 1/2 for 2013!!!! I am so excited!

I really am so excited about this goal, I have been dreaming of doing a 1/2 marathon at WDW for sooo long! so DS isn't going to run with me, I'll be doing it on my own, but my family will be there to cheer me on.:cheer2: And that does mean alot to me.

tomorrow I start my Biggest Loser competiton with DH's work, and we have to list goals. I put the 1/2 marathon as one of my long term goals. it will feel great to get it done.

Have you guys looked at any youtube videos of the past princess marathons? they look like lots of fun. There are ALOT of people that are walking. So I wouldn't feel weird about walking if you need to. And lots of people dressed up in costume. I know I will be wearing something. just not sure what yet.

Are you guys going to "dress up"?

I have never ran in a race in my life. I'm 47 and just starting training. Today was able to walk/run for 2.16 miles in 30 mins. I can feel myself getting stronger each day.

So excited for this thread! Why don't we do a little bio to get to know each other, I know it will help me keep track of everyone/screen names!

Ran 3 miles outside today, it was 44 and pretty windy but it was pretty comfortable! I run in intervals but I still can't get over the 3 mile hump. I did last week with my son, we did 3.68, but I was SORE for quite a few days and I have some health issues, so I guess my mind just wants to go-go-go but my body is making me slower. This is why I am starting my training NOW! It will take me all year I think!

Me neither! Way to go getting in a run/walk today. It is cold here with lots of snow and ice. At this point I'm not even walking outside. I worry about next year at this time. I'll have to find somewherei inside to run.

I think that is a great idea to do a bio. I'll do one soon.

Maybe we could also get a list of everyone that is going.

MaggieMollyMom, do you think you could add a list to the first post? That always helps me to keep everyone straight too.

I'm AmyKay9377! I'm not a physical person and I'm certainly not in great shape, but for a few years I've thought "one day, it would be cool to do that" and then over the past few months, the Princess Half has been STUCK in my head, so I guess that is my subconscious's way of telling me that it's time to get my a$$ off the couch and back into walking shoes.

I'm currently 34 (will be 35 when I do the Half in 2013). I weigh over 200 lbs and was a smoker for 10 years (I quit in 2007). I won't give excuses as to why I weigh what I do, because excuses won't make me any less fat.

I've been married for 15 years to a wonderful, thoroughly supportive man, and we have one DD (14) who thinks she may do the PH with me. Hubby jokingly said he'd wear a tiara too, but I think he'll probably stay on the sidelines.

My mom (almost 60) wants to do this with me as well, and I think that is the push I really needed. If my MOM can do it, so can I (imagine snotty teenager voice there)! I don't know if she will, but I am 99% certain that I'll be doing it no matter what.

I hope I can keep up with this goal. I've got horrible willpower and a REALLY comfy couch...

Yay!

Ok, here's mine:

Twoboysnmygirl AKA Karen-
I'm turning 40 on March 5th, 2013 and REALLY want to run the Princess before that! I fell in love with running about 8-9 years ago when I did Couch to 5K but ended up with a runners knee and didn't know enough to not just quit and not run again for a while.

I would occasionally run for periods and fell right back in love, but something would stall me or hinder my running and then I would stop again. Finally in December of 2010, I decided that I wanted to really consistently run. So, I ran all of 2011, but I have some health issues (Fibromyalgia) and some injuries that really kept me from upping my mileage. I still can only run 3 miles. I run intervals as well, usually 2/2 and right now my time is usually around 12:30-13:00 miles. Anyway, I can fix the fibro with my diet most of the time (vegan) and I am determined to not give up this time and let my body win! I get abnormally sore after runs but I know I can do this!

So, slow training it is! I'm planning on the Princess in 2013 and my BFF will be going with me on an all girls trip (but she won't be running). Uh...other things about me: Married 20 years, I homeschool my kids (11, 16, & 17), I'm a photographer and have my own petsitting business...and I like to talk a lot. As you can see!

Oh and we are going on our first trip to WDW as a family (without IL's) in TWELVE DAYS!!!!!!! We went before in 2009, but wanted to go alone and it's taken us a long time to get to where we can go...I'm so excited!!! :cool1:

My DD and I were checking out tiara's at the store the other day. I am not sure if I will go all out yet but I will be wearing a tiara during my run/walk for sure!!!!princess:

For some reason that little voice that usually would tell me that this whole idea is crazy at my age has been mute. I mapped out 13 miles in my neighborhood and it equals going around my usual walking route 5 times. Still seems very reasonable to me.:confused3

I have watched some YouTube video and they have made me even more excited for the whole thing. :cheer2:

Hi everyone! It's great to see everyone starting to train. I had a hysterectomy Wednesday so I am hoping to get the all clear from my doctor in six weeks. My friend said she would go and run/walk the princess with me, but I am not sure I can count on her. I will probably end up going by myself, and that is fine. I am doing this for me.

Checking in again...I started doing C25k this morning, but it didn't go so well! The timer on the app I put on my phone wasn't working right, so I only did 4 run/walk cycles rather than the intended 8. But I've started, and I will keep going.

I'm eating better and have lost about 6 pounds over the last couple of weeks. Again, just a small part of what I need to do, but it's a start.

Have a great Monday!
