Primevil Whirl, is the height requirment really 48" ?

Been there, Done that, will never do it again! Even DH the roller coaster nut didn't like it!

When it first opened, it was 42 or 44 inches. We returned a year later and they upped it to 48. My youngest daughter was too small to ride it when it first opened and when we returned, she still couldn't ride it. She was very disapointed, that's why I rember the old height restrictions.

It is a rough ride, but I don't see why it is 48 inches

I rode this with DD7 and DS9 last August. DD didn't make the height requirement at Rockin Rollercoaster but easily made it at Primeval Whirl - same shoes?!?
She was 48" and weighed about 42 lbs and had no problem. No bruises on any of us!

I'm glad I found this thread. My just-turned-4 year old son is tall enough (He's huge!) but I think I will have him skip this one for now. The Animal Kingdom will be our first park and I don't want to scare him for other rides.

Wow, I'm pretty amazed at these responses. I have been on PW several times and thought it was pretty tame. My DH who doesn't do spinning things -- teacups -- even rode it and thought the same thing. I couldn't understand why the height requirement was 48 inches.

We watched for a while and decided it was probably safe for our youngest DD to ride (she has cerebral palsy, but can sit upright quite well without support). She was 5 feet tall at the time and about 82 pounds. My other DD is 5 ft 6 and about 110 pounds. They rode with their dad who is small Pooh size. I didn't ride because I knew it would make me sick. During the ride they spun a lot - I think how much you spin has to do with the weight distribution in the car more than anything else. My girls were pretty well thrown around. My oldest DD said she had to really hold on and brace herself with her legs to avoid sliding around. My youngest was not able to brace herself with her legs and by the time the ride ended, she had slid way down in the seat to the point that on the last turn I was afraid she would slide below the restraint. I think one of the reasons for the height requirement might be so that your legs reach the floor for bracing. We won't take my youngest DD on that ride again and the oldest said it was not a ride she would want to repeat.
DH though has been on it multiple times since.
