Primeval Whirl

Vacation is only 11 days away. Has anyone riden the Primeval Whirl in AK? I have an eight year old that wants to ride it.

I think it will be a good choice. It's pretty tame as far as coasters go, but the turns, spinning and drops make it fun.

My daughter and I rode it right after Breakfastosaurus, not a good idea.

I agree about the full stomach thing. It's not too wild of a ride otherwise. Don't do it if you have to wait more than 10-15 minutes.

I think it really depends on what you like. My friend and I (both 22 at the time) rode PW last summer. I have experienced it many times and it continues to be one of my favorite attractions. However, my friend was terrified at the heights and spinning and drops. If you like small drops and spinning, you should be fine. It is really a good time!!

It's sort of like the Tilt-a-whirl only it goes up and down, not just in circles. Your 8 year old will be fine-just no big snacks before hand

I think you 8 year old will love it! My DS14 and I rode it and both enjoyed it.

this ride was way wilder than I thought it would be..it's a combo of a wild mouse and tilt awhirl. fun but lots jerkier than i imagined.. wild mice(mousees?) kind of creep me out with the "haha you almost went off the track" thing but i usually like wild rides. this one just surpised me but it was fun and not so creepy i wouldn't go again. the 8 or so year old they put in our car got more laughs out of me screaming than the actual ride i think

My 7 year old DS is a little bit timid of most roller coasters and he absolutely loved it. It is his favorite DW ride. We must have gone on it about 7 times in a row last year.

He can barely stand space mountain, hated thunder mountain, and can't stand the tilt-o-whirl, but he loves Primevel Whirl!

Yep, someone described it as a Tilt-a-whirl on steriods. That's pretty accurate.

My 16 year old dd and are roller coaster fanatics and love just about all rides of every sort. However, we did not like this one. Not because it was scary, because it is very tame, but because we did not like getting our ribs and hip bones banged and bruised on every turn! We are both a little on the bony side, so maybe that's it, but we just did not have any fun on this ride.

Honestly? We thought it was pretty lame, and chose to amuse ourselves by pretending that things were way more thrilling than they were... you know, when we went down the hills, we threw up our hands and screamed "ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh" over and over again. Cute concept, but very very tame. I must add that we were all adults...

I doubt we'll stand in line to do it again... but everything is always worth one shot.

We rode this with our DD age 6 for the first time a few weeks ago. She loved it and wanted to ride it again.

thinking maybe I was having a brain fart since i have to respectfully disagree with some of the above posts, I asked my husband & we both agree on this...the ride is not roller coaster scary, big hills or whatever but definitly not "tame". we were thrown all over the place. just don't want you to be mislead into thinking this is dumbo revisted. I love thrill rides ( tot, rnr ect) and this is not a thrill ride in that way but you will be hurled all over the place and motion sickness could be a real possibility is you are prone to that. it is more like a scrambler ride..i felt bad for the poor scrawny little kid with us! maybe it has to do with how many are in the car or something but once we started turning it NEVER stopped for the entire ride and i think those little hills seem a lot bigger when you are going down them every which way...hmmmm, maybe the scrawny little kid knew something we didn't!!

i actually had trouble walking straight after this ride...i like the thrill rides as much as the next person but this one ate me alive...i would never call it tame...my daughter loves it but my son won't go near it...but i think that you should try everything at least once....

We went in May 2003 and we did not think that "Tilt-a-whirl on steroids" was accurate at all. Rarely during the ride was the car actually allowed to freely spin. Everytime we went around a corner the car would start to spin and then lock into place until the next corner. Only at the end was it allowed to spin freely and it would not really spin fast and certainly nothing as good as a Tilt-a-whirl. We found it to be really dull.

does anyone know who or what contrals the spin on this...our car spun way to much. normally I like spinning but this was really too much. I'd like the ride better with a little less spin if I can control it.

I agree. DH and I didn't ride it. We were tempted but it looked like it spun a lot when we were watching. He loves spinning. It makes me sick. We were still thinking about riding it when we noticed the drops on it. I love the drops. They make DH sick. We figured this was a ride we had better skip. (Maybe we'll be brave enough next time, but I doubt it.)
