Primeval Whirl Question

I am eagerly looking forward to riding Primeval Whirl at AK when we are there in three weeks. My daughter is afraid of heights, but loves BTMRR at MK. If she can handle that kind of ride, will the drops in Primeval Whirl be okay for her or should she skip it? I would love to hear opinions from anyone who has recently ridden this ride.

I've not ridden it (my momma only raised one stupid kid and that was my brother!) and I don't ever plan on riding it, but I do think that the height requirement for it is higher than BTMRR. It looked rough to me--maybe check it out first and see what you think?

My opinion on the Primeval Whirl is that it has similar "Thrill Factor" as BTMRR...........the whirl is much 'slower' than BTMRR, but has the spinning effect to add to the attraction. Your car actually spins as it progresses thru the track.... It actually reminds you of a "Local Carnival" ride..............Its a fun ride....I wouldn't miss it...........Its no TOT, but a fun ride, nonetheless....

Also, the heights look worse than they actually are, when you are standing on the ground looking up........once you're on it, the heights aren't so bad.....

I'm figuring on taking my 61 Y.O. mom on it next week, and she is NOT A RIDE PERSON..............AT ALL...........

According to the WDW website there is a 48" height restriction for the ride.

I went on this ride for the first time last november and i was really looking forward to it. I did not care for this ride too much. I did not find the ride to be really exciting. It is nothing like TOT or RNRC which are my two favorite rides. This ride hurt my neck. It is a very jerky ride. Not at all smooth. And I think it was like that for just about the whole ride. I would not make it a point to go on it again.

My dd, 10, loves this ride. I, on the other hand, hate it. I would rather do Space Mt. than this. I can't put my finger on why tho. It must be that I can see where I'm going and don't like that spinning as I drop feeling. Don't know. Just know that I won't be doing it again in August. That's my dh's job!!!!

I love PW. It is fun and the spinning is a bonus! The heights are not as bad as they look. My DS5 was just 48 inches this trip and he rode and like it too. I do NOT like how jerky BTMR is and I prefer not to ride it. If your child can ride BTMR, she will like and be able to ride PW.

thanks for the post...I was having a brain drain yesterday trying to remember what PW was called...duh...anywho...as far as the ride itself goes: the drops aren't bad at all on PW as I remember....dd has handled it just fine.....it's not a particularly fast ride; but, a fun one if the lines are not too long....I agree, it's kinda like a carnival ride...I know that's what disney was going for; but, I must admit, I was a little disappointed a few years ago when I first experienced it.....thought the whole area was a little tacky and "non-disney" like...oh well, I better not dredge up that old debate...lol.....your daughter should do fine with this attraction as it probably only rates as a 2-2.5 on the 1-5 thrill scale...

I am not crazy about heights and neither is my 15 yr old DD, but we LOVE this ride. We both hate regular roller coasters too.

The ride is very short so by the time you think about seriously getting scared it is almost over... not that it is that scary at all.

Last year we got there right at park opening and rode the ride several times in a row. It's probably one of my all time favorite rides at WDW ..especially at AK.

I am afraid of heights and have never ridden Big Thunder Mtn. However, I did ride Primeval Whirl and really liked it. It is so hard to say what your duaghter will think of this ride, but you can tell her that this 37-year-old big chicken is afraid of BTM but not PW!

Thanks to all of you for your opinions. I will let my daughter read them and then make up her mind when she gets there! She is almost 16 and is taller than I am, so it's not an age or height restriction - she just hates rides with big drops in them! I think she is a little apprehensive about whether this ride will be like BTMRR, which she loves, or more like Splash Mountain, which she absolutely hates and will never ride again! Anyway, thanks again. I'll let you know how she liked it when we get back home!

ooohh....We (my girls, 7 and 9, my DH, and me) really disliked this ride. In fact it is one of my least favorite rides anywhere!!!! The cars are much wider than the track, leaving the two outside riders hanging over the edge. Not a good experience for me...kept expecting the thing to break down!!! As several others stated, it is VERY jerky - much more so than BTMRR. We are not generally ride wimps and we vote thumbs down. Another thought...I agree with the above poster who said they thought the whole "land" was really off-kilter with other Disney magic. Not my favorite area as a whole. I've never heard anyone else say that before so I'm glad I'm not alone!!!! I LOVE WDW ANYWAY!

My Dad and I rode this ride in February, leaving my DD pouting because she wasn't tall enough to ride it. All throughout the ride, we kept looking at each other saying, "Why would she not be able to ride this?" (She's 44") We were expecting something major, but we personally thought the ride was no big thrill at all - nothing even remotely scary about it for us.

Its the 37-year-old big chicken again. I too really don't like Splash Mountain-- I am too worried about the final drop to enjoy it! But we are going back down in late Feb/early May. You can tell your daughter that she has inspired this chicken to try BTM. She and I seem to be "birds of a feather."

I've ridden Splash Mountain twice. Never again. The anticipation of that final drop ruins it for me. Primeval Whirl is fun, and much like that of a local carnival ride as has been pointed out. Once your daughter sees it, I'm sure she'll ride without hesitation. The first time I rode was with my young DGDs and we all enjoyed it.

LOVE IT!! LOVE IT!!! LOVE IT!!!!!
My DD and I rode it 12 times in a row last May. It was our first time on it and we absolutely fell in love with it. If you love BTMRR and the tea cups, it's like those 2 put together and gone wild! The carnival atmosphere we found hilarious. The signs, colors and lights really make this ride in our opinion. My DD is already plans on doing this ride again, and again, and again. She says we are beating our 12 in a row record. (The lines were non existent in May and I hear they will be minimal in early Feb.) I'll let everyone know what our new record is when we return!
(The only reason we stopped is I convinced her to go and do something else. I really could have ridden it all day!)

My brother (who is 21 ) is kind of a sissy when it comes to rides. He refuses to ride Space Mountain, HATED Splash Mountain, but he absolutely LOVES Thunder Mountain and Primeval Whirl.

PW is a lot like a tilt-a-whirl that you'd find at a local carnival. It has a few smallish drops similar to the ones in Pirates of the Caribbean and Norway but it is not scary in any respect.

I think your daughter will enjoy it.

We just rode this 2 weeks ago with 8 and 9 year olds. It is fun and the drops are not bad. 72 year old mom rode with us and she laughed throughout the whole ride. It's fun with l low thrill factor. We rode it last year and enjoyed it so much we didn't want to miss it this time. Have fun!!

When I was a kid, my local amusement park had a ride extremely similar to PW but ours was called the Wild Mouse. There is one main drop which may put someone's stomach in their throat for a very brief second and the second drop is so small my stomach decided to stay put. The ride does rotate 3 or 4 times at certain points but it does slow at a medium speed. However, the ride is jerky and is meant to be that way. When it turns the corners it is supposed to make you feel almost like your supposed to go flying out of the vehicle or that the vehicle will fall off the edge (this is exactly how the Wild Mouse was when I was young). It makes me giggle but it is jerky. I say try it at least once.
