Hello!
We are a fun family group of 14 including kids, young adults older adults and even older adults! We are all very fun loving and get in the spirit of things,
None of us have done either of these restaurants and we also know it would be tricky and unlikely that we would be seated together too... What would you choose of these two?

50's Prime Time Cafe is probably the best fit for your family. The staff are very interactive. The seating might be an issue with so many of you though as the restaurant is broken up into smaller sections - so doubtful you would all get to sit in the same section.

SciFi is a nice atmosphere, but only 6 maximum can sit in a car (if I recall correctly) - and there are no guarantees you would be seated in a car - it might be at a table near the kitchen section.

I've only been to Sci Fi, and although I thought it was awesome, i think by the sounds of your family 50s Prime Time would be perfect :goodvibes

I was hoping you'd say that, I really wanted the prime time to be the thumbs up one, thank you!! :goodvibes

I've seen a party of 15 or so at PTC at a long table near the kitchen. We shared a server who had 4 other tables and no one suffered. Well, not because of service. If you don't like greens, sub the corn. hehehe

Depends upon whether you intend to go for lunch or dinner. Sci Fi is fun, but it really only appeals to me for lunch. I could do either for 50s PT, but only lunch at Sci-Fi.

I've been to both, Prime Time every visit I think, and Sci Fi 1x. If you like Sci Fi movies they show the clips, but I wasn't impressed. It seemed very crowded and not much space.

Hello Ms. Nadia! :goodvibes

A group of 14 ... wow ... that certainly is a Magical Gathering! :grouphug:

Umm, I personally prefer Sci-Fi and I think it has one of the best theme ideas for a restaurant in WDW, however, since you have such a large group I would say Prime Time.

Since none of you have ever been to either of these restaurants let me explain myself better! :teacher:

The whole point of Sci-Fi is that you are at an Old Time Drive-In sitting in cars watching scenes from the old B movies and old commercials. With the way that the cars are set-up it may be difficult for one part of your group to communicate with the rest because you absolutely need two cars. There are tables in the center of the theater that may be able to be pushed together to accommodate your entire group but that kinda ruins the experience of the place because you're supposed to feel like your at a Drive-In. :3dglasses

Prime Time on the other hand is comprised of standard tables and booths which will make seeing everyone and talking with others much easier. :upsidedow

Here's my final thoughts! If you don't need to be in constant communication with every single member of your group then I would certainly say choose Sci-Fi! Also, Sci-Fi normally quiets conversation because you are watching the screen. :happytv: There is absolutely nothing wrong with Prime Time ... it has a very fun theme with "Mom" and "Dad" telling you to eat your veggies and keep your elbows off the table but I just prefer Sci-Fi. ;) If you DO decide to go to Sci-Fi MAKE SURE you tell the girls when you check-in that you want cars and not tables ... wait for the cars ... it will make the experience much more enjoyable!

As far as the food goes ... I am not a picky eater and I could enjoy a burger for Dinner as easily as I could for Lunch. Each offers their own unique items like Prime Time with a meatloaf meal and Sci-Fi with a really YUMMY Reuben sandwich. popcorn::

I hope I helped a little bit and maybe gave you a better understanding of each. If there is something I missed or something you want more info on PLEASE ask! I don't want to plan your trip for you ... because that is half the fun ... but I want to see you make the best decisions for your group! NO REGRETS!

Most definetly go for the 50's Prime Time Cafe'. The "older and even older adults" will most definetly reconize many of the items inside from useing them personally or form that time period. I know my wife and I have seen many things that our mothers and grandmothers used in their kitchems. The staff is really great about interacting with you also, especially about geting your elbows off of the table, and cleaning your plate. It's a fun place to eat, and the food I would catagorize as comfort home type food.

Primetime definitely. It is loud and bright, most of the servers seem to have a lot of fun and a big party that is open to it will probably have a ball. I have been to both. At Sci Fi - you will probably be farther apart (cars don't seat that many - and the cars are the main part of the fun). It is very loud and dark and it may be harder to interact with each other. Also, my kids were actually scared by Sci Fi, oldest was 5 and he was scared.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but by the sounds of your group, if you have an extra day, you should try the Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge. Your group sound like this would just be up their alley!!

You can get burgers at dinner even though they aren't on the dinner menu.

I would definitely go with 50s Prime Time Cafe. My family used to go to Sci-fi every year, but stopped going about five years ago because the food was just ok. The food at Prime Time is much better and if you get a good server, you can have a lot of fun. I also prefer the theming of Prime Time over Sci-fi. Try the pot roast, its fantastic! Have a great trip!

We do both on our trips (and yes Whispering Canyon). Sci fi is dark, and can be scary for younger ones.. think 60's sci fi tv. You really can't have good conversation, and there isn't interacting between you and the servers. But I love their milk shakes and onioin rings!

Primetime is interactive between you and your server and tons of fun. It also brings you back to your childhood, oldtime tvs, old living room... just lots of fun... No matter what you choose, it will be run!:happytv:

Chiming in...50s PRIME TIME!!!

I can only say that I've been there once when I was 6, 22 years ago...but I remember it clear as day. My parents are older so I was familiar with some of the shows, the music and the decor...I found it wonderful fun.
I remember the waitress scolding me for having my elbows on the table, then giggling when she scolded my father for the same thing. The sandwich(I think it was chicken salad) was gigantic, I couldn't bite into it.
I thought it was awesome to have a TV at my table, that was forbidden at home!

I haven't been to Sci-Fi, but I have such fond memories of 50s...sounds like you're group would be fun!! I may tag along.:rotfl:

After 3 trips to the world where I avoided SCI-Fi based on the bad reviews, we gave it a try. I had low expectations, and it met them. In spades....now we've BTDT and won't be back. The kitchsy theming couldn't save what was a seriously lackluster meal. We kept it simple based on suggesstion, but it was still barely edible. Certainly overpriced.

On the other hand, 50s PTC is truly one of our favorite meals of the trip. We look forward to it each time we go!

Your "decision" really is not all that tough, IMO. :goodvibes

We went to 50's PT last summer, and have never been to Sci Fi. Not all the servers get into the theme - I specifically put my elbows on the table and got nothing. No mention of any kind of schtick at all. Our server was about as enthusiastic as what you get a typical Denny's. The food was OK - nothing special, but not terrible either. If this was a Denny's I would have said my expectations were met, but it wasn't anything better than that.

I feel Prime Time has better food, but i love the drive in theme.. But it does only play the same clips over and over.
Last trip to disney we couldnt get into Sci-Fi because it was first come, first serve :confused3
