Prilosec OTC and RX type

I was given Prilosec 40mg by my gastro doctor months ago, as the over the counters weren't working .... I was on Nexium by prescription and it was becoming sooo expensive I had to stop - with that, he gave me Prilosec thru my pharmacy --- generic -- I ran out of the meds, I called it in and over Thanksgiving didn't pick it up --- when I went a 2 days later, the pharmacy was closed so I purchased OTC Prilosec 20mg, figured I'd take 2.

Well, they don't work -- how come????? Isn't it the same thing? 20mg OTC x2 compared to Pharmacy version 40mg?

I'm having such gastro issues the past 2 days, why don't they work?

They don't work for me either.

It's the delivery method.

Prilosec has roughly seven patents on its "delivery" mechanism. When the patents expired, not all of them did so the only forumulary that is true to the original is Prilosec that you get via prescription. Even generic omeperazole is not quite the same.

The OTC Prilosec is in a tablet form and not in spanules. I believe that it many people, the drug does not break down well in the system and doesn't work.

You'd be better off using Prevacid if you have to purchased something OTC. While it isn't the same drug as Prilosec, it is similar and is in its original form.
