Pride & Prejudice

I love both versions so you really can't go wrong but the 5 hour BBC version with Colin Firth is my absolute favorite. PBS recently aired all the Jane Austen films, I think all BBC versions, and each of them were fabulous. Their version of Sense and Sensibility was the best I've ever seen. I was in Heaven.

You definitely want the 1995 BBC production with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.

While I'm a huge Colin Firth fan, it's Jennifer Ehle that is REALLY Lizzie to me. Keira Knightly just doesn't come close to having that mixture of mischief and intelligent humor that is required to play Lizzie Bennett in my opinion.

Another fan of the BBC version here.

If you are a big fan of P&P (particularly the BBC version), I recommend you check out the ITV miniseries "Lost in Austen"

M.

I love Lost in Austen! A modern day Jane Austen fan ends up trading places with Lizzie. It's fabulous. :thumbsup2

The BBC versions follow the books. The Kiera Knightly version leaves SO. MUCH. out and the characters just... don't compare. I LOVE the books, and just hate when the movies cut so much character background/building out. I've read several books that were made into movies (Time Traveler's Wife, Nanny Diaries, Devil wears Prada, etc) and the movies pale compared to the book. But the BBC movies are not like that at all! They include everything. Yes, they're long, but the books are long. And classics. BBC truly brings the book to life.

Colin Firth makes my heart flutter, I wouldn't give another version the time of day but that's just me... love the strong and silent type and he does it so well  BBC usually does an exceptional job emphasizing substance over pizazz.

Another vote for the BBC version. It is much more like the book. I'll have to check out "Lost in Austen." Thanks for the suggestion!

I like both versions (BBC and Kiera Knightly one), but the BBC version is my favorite. It's one of my favorite books, too. :)

Oooh, that sounds great!

Though it seems redundant at this point, I'll chime in with my two cents. If you've read the book you will probably be sorely disappointed with anything but the 1995 version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. Jennifer Ehle truly captures the spirit of Lizzy Bennet.

But, as with any book adaptation, a two hour movie is not the best way to capture the essence of the story. I've never watched an adaptation that could hold a candle to the book.

LOVE the one with Colin Firth in it :lovestruc

Did you read Pride & Prejudice & Zombies? I've been meaning to pick it up--is it any good?

Colin Firth one FOR SURE!!!!!!!!1:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

(Though, the other one is ok......)

Dh LOVED the P/P & Zombie book btw.:thumbsup2

Another vote for the BBC version. Although, I do love the Keira Knightly version as well. The BBC is just a more complete representation of the book.

If you love Jane Austen, have you looked at Persuasion? That was my favorite of the books and the movie (BBC and I think there is another) is really goos as well.

I took a class in college called Jane Austen's World. It was about the history of her time, but we also read the novels and saw all the movies. I love Jane Austen's books.

Colin Firth makes my heart flutter,

LOL - Colin Firth makes this bears heart flutter toooooo!!!!!:lovestruc

That's part of my problem w/ the Kiera Knightly version - they guy playing the Darcy character is just too 'wimpy' (w/ full apologies to his fans.....it's just my take....) I :love:Firths demeaner and his stature.:thumbsup2

BBC version followed by the Bollywood version Bride & Prejudice. :)

Totally agree. The BBC one is truly the only one worth watching, and then Bride and Prejudice is just good fun :goodvibes

i cannot stand the kiera knightly one. i love the colin firth one though. i think the actors fit the roles better. really, has there ever been a better mrs bennet?

I am late to the game. I prefer the BBC Jennifer Ehle/Colin Firth miniseries but there are some nice moments in the Keira Knightley version. Unfortunately it is way too edited and Matthew MacFadyen (while fabulous and sexy in other things) is bleh as Mr. Darcy.

I also really enjoyed the brand new BBC Emma with Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller as Mr. Knightley.

I also like the BBC version.

If you haven't read the book, you must! I have all the Austen books on my Kindle since you can download them for free!

I started reading P&P with Zombies. It's funny as it does follow the books but during scenes zombies show up and the Lizzy and her sisters start fighting them. I don't know that I would read the whole book though.
