Pride & Prejudice

I liked the Keira Knightley one. The older version, I couldn't stand it

The one with Colin Firth. I loved the book, and I think he plays Darcy wonderfully. And he's a bit older than the other one, so it makes for some interesting sexual-tension between him and Lizzy. The scene where she's visiting his estate without knowing he's there, and he comes out of the lake soaking wet...when he sees her, the look on his face is like a little boy being embarrassed. He pulls it off so well. Ok, I'm feeling warm now!

Definitely the Colin Firth BBC version!

Another big :thumbsup2 for Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle as Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett. One thing, though- the BBC version is 5 hours long (!!), so if you think you can't last that long, the Keira Knightly version is a more manageable 2 hours. But, IMO, the BBC version is much better.

Have you seen Emma? It is another Jane Austen novel- turned film. There are 2 versions I like- the BBC one with a young Kate Beckinsale, and the Hollywood version with Gwyneth Paltrow as Emma. It is a comedy/romance about a spoiled young rich girl who wants to make matches for her friends, but doesn't realize she is in love with a dear family friend. The 90's movie Clueless with Alicia Silverstone was based on Emma.

I guess I'm against the norm but I love the one with Kiera Knightly. Althought the BBC version is good.

I loved them both (and own them both) for different reasons. Sometimes, I want a P&P fix, but don't have time to watch the entire BBC version (2 DVDs!). And I really like Kiera Knightly's take on the role. But for the amazing details, the scenery, and Colin Firth, the BBC version is amazing!

I like both versions.

If I'm home sick or snowed in I might watch the PBS version - love Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy.

Otherwise, in many ways I prefer the movie version. I like the way the characters were portrayed and love the cinematography and music, etc.

BBC version followed by the Bollywood version Bride & Prejudice. :)

P&P is my favorite movie!!!!! The Matthew Mcfayden:love: Keira Knightly version! WE watch it a lot at my house!! The music is wonderful! We listen to the soundtrack pretty much non-stop! The cinematography is just beautiful!!!!!

I read Pride and Prejudice last year and it must be a "chick" thing because this guy didn't get it at all.

That being said, the movie version with Keira Knightly really won me over. Like others have said, the music is stunning. I play the piano and immediately after watching the film, downloaded the soundtrack from iTunes and bought the piano music. Really pretty stuff.

I actually like the film quite a bit...I couldn't stand the book at all. Jane Austen just isn't for guys, I guess (and adding zombies to the mix didn't help because I tried to read that version, but stopped halfway through).

Tie but I also love the Bollywood take (Bride and Prejudice) plus there's the Lost factor via Naveen Andrews.

Another fan of the BBC version here.

If you are a big fan of P&P (particularly the BBC version), I recommend you check out the ITV miniseries "Lost in Austen"

You are all making this tough. I guess I'll go with the 1995 BBC version. Also Emma with Gwenyth Paltrow. Maybe later, I'll watch the P&P with Kiera Knightly for the music & cinematography.

I found a similar scene from both of youtube, where she turns down his first proposal, and Keira's version just fell flat after watching the BBC version. I know, can't judge it all based on just one scene, but it was noticable.

With DH going to be gone for a year next year, I plan on adding all these chick flicks I've never gotten to see. Maybe I need to increase my Netflix subscription. hehehehehe
