I just saw a post for someone selling points for $9.75 after March 1st. I'm new to all this, but my understanding was that points typically go for $10-11, unless they're about to expire.

I was so excited about the prospect of selling points to help defray the costs of our adoption since we really can't afford to travel for a little while (it felt like a real blessing, actually), but I'm afraid that I will keep getting undercut. Is there something I'm missing? Do I have other options?

Please advise!

Some people need the money really quick so they try to rent them at lower cost and some give more discounts if you rent all at once. However, even with all of this going on, I was able to rent my points out at the normal price of $10-11. If you are willing to rent (transfer) points, some DVC members I know are willing to pay the going rate to be able to get 5-10 points to book their vacation.

Good luck.

It is also kinda like EBAY where peace of mind is worth a premium.

I would rather pay a higher price from a more reputable vendor, than a lower price from some one with no/negative feedback. And others would rather get the lowest price and deal with the risks.

This is very true... the difference here is that renters will sometimes factor in how many posts you have made and how long you have been on the board. Some might be more skeptical about renting from someone with so few posts. In your case, you might want to mention if you have an ebay account and feedback on there.

I saw a renter looking to rent posts last night for $11.

Someone replyed in the thread that they had them for the renter. Another person replied that they also had them (in the thread) but for 10. Nothing like a free market economy. If i find the post I will edit this and put the link in below.

I think that's kind of dirty....

I mean if I saw someone doing that, I think I'd completely overlook that person. I mean if someone is advertising that they have points available to rent, someone shouldn't be going in and posting in that thread unless they are a potential renter... not someone trying to undercut everyone else.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks this is unfair. Maybe I'm not a very good capitalist ;) but I think there should be some integrity involved.

I'm also wondering how people will remember me and my points out there. I posted our 268 points yesterday and had a few nibbles, but my message got buried pretty quickly. Are you supposed to keep posting? Are there rules about how often you can post the same points?

Thanks!

You can go into the thread you created and just post a new reply... some calling it a "Bump" so that your thread is moved to the top of the list. I would do that once a day or so to keep it up there. When you rent out some points, you should also update your thread to include the number of points you have left that you can rent. Don't keep it showing at 268 if you only have 175 left.... etc...

I'm not sure you guys interperted the thread the way I did.

The original Poster was looking to rent BCV and would pay upto $11.00.

The first response was from a DVC member willing to rent for $10.00 a point, thus he undercut no one but himself. Of course he did not have the confirmed ressie, so his $10.00 was irrelevant.)

I will admit that cut-throat renting (what I think you guys were referring to) is annoying, but it is a free market society. I have rented points for $11.00 - $12.00 even on threads with the price cutting bargin point sellers.

You are correct, I did interpret this wrong (as I had not seen the thread in question at that point). In this particular case I think the posting was fine. The person was asking for people to post what they had, and the one person said they could do it but would only charge $10 (instead of 10.50 or 11).

I was thinking it was a DVC member saying they had points they wanted to rent for $11 and then someone posted saying they also had points but would do it for $10 (or something like that).

Sorry about that.... greenban certainly isn't "dirty". :teeth:
