Pricing experts predict $4 per gallon

Here in Indianapolis on my way home from work - I saw many stations selling for $3.29. Yikes.

I'm watching world news tonight, and the expert they just interviewed said "$5.00 a gallon is whispered number I am beginning to hear" YIKES!

I filled up yesterday around 2pm and bought regular unleaded for $2.49/gal. Today at 2pm, the same station was 2.99/gal for regular unleaded. I have already consolidated errands and try to cut out as much driving as much as I possibly can. I drive about 350 miles/week average - just work, picking up kids from school, and errands. We're now thinking about buying a used small economic car and parking the SUV. Can't decide if that's the best thing to do or not. I just wonder how long the prices will stay up???
BUT...
Every time I start complaining about the gas prices rising, I step back & take a look and am so thankful that I have a car to put gas in. My prayers go out to all those affected by this devastating storm. My heart aches for everyone that has lost their families, their homes, their jobs... It's just unimaginable.

And an "expert" I read said it would peak around $4 and maybe slide back to $2.5 by year end. Why is it when a disaster hits, all the doom and gloom experts appear? I do wonder how many so-called experts they talked to before they found one who would give a high price.

On Monday the price was still at 2.69, I filled up at "my" station near the MN border that's close to DD's gymnastics at 2.59 (they're always 9-12 cents cheaper). Today the stations I drive past are at 2.94.

Anyone in Iowa or NE Missouri who can report on prices there? We're driving down to Canton to visit DS at school over the weekend, HWY 61. I'm expecting about 2.84 thru Iowa and $2.76 right at the border in Alexandria if prices don't go up again based on past experience on this frequent drive. Just don't want to be in for a huge shock on this trip that takes 2 tanks in our minivan.

We're 2.5 hrs. from WDW here in JAX, and tonight we saw gas at $2.65 and $2.69. A heads-up for those of you going soon - Hess at WDW was cheaper than stations nearby but off site. We paid $2.53 on WDW property last Friday, and we're going down on Sat., so we'll see how it's changed. Our prices have been comparable to Disney gas prices so far.

Pipelines from La. were down due to pumps out from Katrina. They have some pumps working now and pumping crude in at 25% of usual capacity. The stations did not recieve gas for three days and they usually hold 3-5 day supply. Long lines last night in Atlanta area and price gouging was going on. Governor stepped in to stop the gouging by prosecuting those who do.

Right now gas is hovering at $3.10/gallon and there is gas available. I am heading down to WDW this weekend for my DD first trip. Hope to get gas down and back (9/2-8). Have pre-paid for a trip with dining and have really been looking forward to this.

This is absolutely insane. A gas station by me was $2.43 on Tuesday, $2.53 yesterday morning and 2 hours later when I came back fromt he mall was $2.95!

The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported prices in Atlanta as high as $5.87 per gallon this morning.

I am heading down to WDW this weekend for my DD first trip. Hope to get gas down and back (9/2-8). Have pre-paid for a trip with dining and have really been looking forward to this.

We're scheduled to drive down on Saturday and aren't worried as much about the price of gas, but the availability of gas. Family members who live an hour north of Orlando had to drive 15 miles to find a gas station that actually ahd gas last night.
