Has anyone used priceline for a rental car with good success. Are they so much cheaper than what you can get on your own. I just read the write up on mousesaver and it got me thinking.

Check on www.biddingfortravel.com for latest rental car bids (currently $17 per day for full size). However, check out Entertainment Book rates for rental cars. I paid $17 per day for a full size, plus got a free upgrade to a SUV (with Priceline you must pay in advance with no refund -- Entertainment Book rate is a "normal" reservation -- no upfront payment, plus you can make reservation changes without a service fee).

In my experience you can usually do better booking directly with codes from Mousesavers (or sometimes even without the codes) if you are booking for a week or longer. If you are renting for just a few days sometimes Priceline is the best bet.

I would suggest checking out Mousesavers and playing with codes, etc and see what kind of rate you can get...and then make a lower bid on priceline and see if you get it. The big diff with Priceline is it is prepaid and cannot be changed....so you are locked in, and with a regular ressie you can cancel/change/rebook at will.

I have not had much luck lately with Priceline car rentals, but maybe you will have better luck.

I checked mousesavers and the only codes I noticed expired in may or june. Will new ones come out for august september? Right now an 11 day rental is costing me more than the 2 airline tickets. (400 +dollars) I would use the buses but i was disappointed in them last year. I had my own car and felt I could get to and from the parks quicker.

We used the buses, we did stay on WDW property, but they worked fine for us. Maybe you could save the money, and give the buses another try. I hate looking for cars in large parking lots, etc....

For our December 04 trip, I looked at all the codes on Mousesavers for rental car deals. I limited myself to only those rental agencies that were located on airport property and plugged in every single code on their sites to see what kidn of a deal I could get. We ended up getting a full sized car from Budget for about $120 (before taxes) for 7 days. And when we went to pick up the car, they said all they had left was a mini-van, so we made out even better. We just prefer a rental car to get back and forth from WDW to the airport so we can be in control of our own fate, so to speak. But we use WDW transportation when we get to WDW.

I attempted to use Priceline last summer to book an SUV. Be aware that the Priceline software (at that time) did not properly book the vehicle. I submitted my "bid", it was rejected, upped my bid by $10 and it was accepted, however instead of the system booking an SUV, it booked a compact vehicle for more than I couuld have gotten from Hertz paying rack rate! :earseek: I played it smart though: I had printed out the screen I placed my bid on which showed that I was bidding for an SUV, but even with this Priceline customer service refused to accept that the error was in the system saying it was impossible for an error to have happened (ummm excuse me - I program these type systems, I know a bug when I see one, and YES it is entirely possible.) CS finally agreed to cancel the reservation and refund all but $25, charged as a convience fee. I got the feeling that this sort of thing happens a lot with their system and their approach is "hey, since we have no clue how to fix it, let's make a few bucks off of it."

Just a heads up... if you use priceline, *thoroughly* check over your reservation confirmation e-mail when it comes though. I personally will never consider using them again.
