Is there any trick with Priceline that helps you to know if you're getting, say, a night at the Swan/Dolphin, or other good resorts? I mean is it better to pick a 3 star or a resort for the hotel option?

I majorly goofed and probably shouldn't admit this but I had made ressies through priceline and mistakenly put down the wrong month   Got charged for two nights stay that never happened. I'm done banging myself up for it and now would like a chance to redo this right.

Any suggestions?

OMGoodness bostonlass, I feel so bad for you. I know how you feel thou; I did that very same thing when I booked out Nutcracker tickets online...Got them for a night that there was no way. I called them and thank god they switched them for me with no added cost.
However, priceline scares me! LOL The not knowing part!
Yep, call me chicken!

Maybe you can check out the hotel sites to see what the going prices are for and use that for your starting bid...?
Good Luck!

The best place to get information about priceline is www.biddingfortravel.com. If you are hoping for the Swan/Dolphin, you need to bid resort level. They go for about $70 per night. There is no way you can assure getting a particular hotel. The list of hotels in each category and location is available at this site. If there are hotels you wouldn't want to stay at, you shouldn't use Priceline in that location/category. For instance, there is a nasty LaQuinta in the MCO area. SO, we only bid 3* in airport. There are nice 2.5* hotels, including a nice LaQuinta, but I won't risk getting the dumpy one.

If you make a major goof (like you wrong month), Priceline has a ONE time in your life policy of allowing you out of a reservation if you contact them and explain the mistake. The better rule is to check out everything you have entered before you hit that final bid button.

You can get great savings, but you need to be careful!

Don't feel bad...last week I was going through all our upcoming flights to Orlando, and when I was checking our Feb. cruise, I realized I had booked Thurs. to Mon. instead of Weds. to Sun.! Thankfully the fare difference wasn't too bad, but I was also socked with a $50 per person penalty.
I've bid resort level at WDW (Lake Buena Vista area) hoping to get the Swan or Dolphin, but I've gotten the Gaylord, the Hyatt, and the Hilton. You just never know! And be aware that some of the WDW-area resort hotels hit you with a daily "resort fee" of $8 a day over and above the Priceline cost. Biddingfortravel.com has info. about that little "scam."

Well.....I couldn't cancel because the dates have past....I made them for January 16-18 instead of April 16-18 so I got charged $72 for nada. I'll suck it up and never make that mistake again!!

I rebid for the correct dates and no resort accept the bid for $70, then added 3 stars and still nada. This is a very popular week apparently. I ended up at Hotwire and wouldn't you know I have the exact same hotel as what I originally had for the wrong month. Not too bad I guess but now $50/ night instead of $30/night. It's the Holiday Inn over at Downtown Disney an dused to be the Courtyard Marriott. Still cheaper even with the messup than if I had booked it myself.

Live and learn!!!!:p :p

You definitely have to check and recheck your dates/info on Priceline. Our most recent Priceline experience was two rooms in Paris (Champs Elysee area) that were listed at $520.00 per night (cheapest price I could find on the Internet). We got them for only $85.00 per night. What a savings for a fabulous place!

I just had a bid accepted on Priceline for the Hyatt at MCO on May 1, 2004 for $37 + $11 in tax and fees. This is the Saturday after our cruise. I also recommend biddingfortravel.com. Check the recent examples of winning bids.

Not bad for an Amish bidder!
