We're going to be at a horse show for a week. I looked at Priceline, and the only 3.5 star they list is an Embassy Suites (which I would like) at a pretty decent price. I would like the price to be lower though.

Under the "Name Your Own Price" option, there is an option for 3.5 stars. Common sense tells me that it has to be the ES, but I'd love to get an opinion from others who have used PL a lot. I've only used it a couple of times.

Thanks!

3.5 stars can mean any number of hotels in the city you are wanting to stay.

Yes, but Priceline only has one 3.5 stars listed on their site (under the part where you can actually view the names of the hotels). Would it be likely that there would be another 3.5 star available that isn't on their site?

Not necessarily.

Are you looking at the BiddingForTravel.com site where there is a more extensive list?

There is NO guarantee of hotel, and you do not get your money back, so proceed with caution.

I don't know about Priceline specifically but I had a similar experience with Hotwire and unless you're willing to stay anywhere I wouldn't recommend it.

We thought we knew which hotel we would get based on our searches. We ended up with an independent hotel that Hotwire considered a higher star rating but when looking elsewhere online for reviews appeared to be as clean and kept up as a dilapidated 1 star.

I spent 3 hours on the phone with Hotwire and ended up with a refund (which I hear is very rare) only because I compared all the amenities that were promised and then called the hotel going through each one and found they didn't have one (I was very determined lol)

I would never bid on a room again. It's not really set up to give you the deal of a lifetime, it's set up to fill hotel rooms that nobody wants. That's just MHO and experience. Good luck!

Ugh!! I wondered about that yesterday when I was booking a hotel on priceline. I'm glad I stuck to not risking it! I used Kayak and was, so far, pleased with the experience. I found cheaper rates than I was finding looking at individual sites. This is my first time booking hotels this way, so I'm hoping I don't have issues when we check in :rolleyes1 but I was glad to find better rates I wouldn't have known about.

Yes, but the identified hotels only go up to a 3 star. The only one I found listed in the forums was for a 2 star.

I think I've decided to keep the 1BR suite at Candlewood. I have an excellent rate on it, and it has a full kitchen which Embassy Suites won't have. I love the breakfasts at ES, but a lot of the time we're at the barn before they start serving breakfast anyway. This was we can cook some meals in the room instead of having to eat out all the time.
