Has anyone used the name your price at Priceline? Was it a good experience or a bad one? Any tricks to using it?

We're thinking of doing it for our arrival night.

Thanks!

I have used Priceline for hotels many times. It has to be the right circumstances for me though. I won't use it for my Disney trips except, as you are interested in, on arrival night. In the Orlando WDW area I have gotten the Rosen center Hotel for $39 a night. The Worldgate Resort (Ramada, Doubletree, it has changed a few times) for $35 a night and the Gaylord for $95. You need to feel comfortable about the whole situation though. If you are looking to spend a small amount of money for a decent place you will be fine. Sometimes you can get really nice places for a great price but it is not inexpensive all the same.

I have used it many times for hotels and car rentals. The experience has been good. Before you plan to bid, do some research on which hotels are being accepted and the price. Go to biddingfortravel.com. They have hotel lists for the areas and prices which were accepted. They can also give you a bidding strategy. When you bid on Priceline, you cannot bid for a specific hotel, just a category (star rating) and an area. I bid for 2 nights in Orlando, resort category in WDW area and got the Gaylord Palms for $93 a night. Recently, some people who have been bidding the 2.5 star category have been getting the All Star Sports or Music for about $36 a night.

I have also won bids for cars and hotels in San Francisco and in Hawaii which were all good deals!

Thanks everyone for the advice. Ya'll are making me feel good about trying this. Thanks for the web site addy. I'll check it out. :sunny:

I had a good experince (my only experience!). As a PP already suggested go to biddingfortravel.com - I did a bit of reseacrh before I tried PL. I got Gaylord Palms for $93 a night 6/29-7/2, WAAAYYY better than their rack rate. This is a non-disney trip for us.

I have gotten 3 hotel at DTD. Courtyard now Holiday Inn for 36 2 nites in 2003, in 2004 we got the BW for 29 & last year we got the Wyndam for 54. I used www.biddingfortravel.com to see what had been coming up before I bid.
