How does priceline work. We are thinking about using it for the first time. Can you cancell your reservations? What if you don't like the hotel? Can you ask not to stay at a certain hotel chain?

TIA

No, it's non-cancellable. And, you cannot pick the hotel. However, you can make an educated guess about which hotell you will likely get and what you'll have to bid to get it.

Check out www.betterbidding.com for tons of info on ebay & hotwire bidding.

If you know NOTHING of Priceline I would go to www.biddingfortravel.com and research the hotels that will likely come up for the * and city you want.

No, you can't cancel or change your reservations through Priceline;
No, you can't specify any particular hotel chain.

I use Priceline all the time for travel to San Antonio to go to Sea World, I only bid on a RESORT, I usually get the Radisson which lists online for $179.00/night for $62-65.00/night on Priceline which is a good deal.

With Priceline, you get what you get. Saying that, I have never been disappointed. Be sure you check out betterbidding.com as the previous poster noted. It can help you know what you might get and how much you should bid. I have gotten the Swan and Dolphin over the years, as well as, DTD hotels for a fraction of the rack rate. I have also found out at the last minute I could not use a ressie and ended up eating what I paid for it (actually gave it away). Be sure of your dates, etc. before you bid.

I use biddingfortravel all the time, but make sure that you read all the FAQ before you ask any questions. They can be a little harsh.

thats da truth.

www.betterbidding.com has a friendlier atmosphere but less information. I use both.

My rule is that if I can't live with ANY hotel listed on the www.biddingfortravel.com site, I don't bid.

Swan/Dophin are VERY rare so don't go into thinking you will get one of those.

If you do plan to use Hotwire or Priceline, always bid way way low. Do not bid what they suggest after you get a rejection. You should be thinking well under half the going rate, not fair prices like 70 to 75%.

Currently you can still be socked with resort fees or non-free parking that are not included in your bid.

keep in mind that they only guarantee bedding for two people. we have bid and won before, and then called the hotel directly afterwards to request two beds. biddingfortravel.com is a great place to research prior winning bids. they also give excellent advice.
beware, they can be ruthless to posters who don't do their homework.
on the other hand, the moderators will give advice on a bidding strategy if you provide all of the required information.

One problem I've had with Priceline (as well as with hotels.com) is that if you have a problem with your room or something isn't up to expectations, the hotels don't care. The attitude is: You already paid, so tough!

Also, I believe we have gotten some of the less desirable (read yucky and not recently refurbished) rooms using Priceline. Probably not all hotels do this, but I have quite often had comments made at check-in about it being a "Priceline room".

There are some markets where you can be quite sure of a decent room with Priceline and others where I would never bid. As the others have posted, look at betterbidding and biddingfortravel. Just don't ask any "studpid" questions or you WILL get yelled at :)

If you get a room you feel is inferior, go back to the front desk. Ask for the manager on duty. Then nicely explain that they did not have to accept the bid, and they did accept the price and owe you the same standard room. I have done that twice in Chicago and gotten much nicer rooms. (Of course I do it if they give me an inferior room on regular rates too!) I have never had what I would consider inferior room in Orlando.

I've found the same with Priceline for San Antonio. I had to wait about 24 hours though before the reservation was on file so that I could request a room with 2 beds...I got the last one.

What about using Priceline for rental cars? I've got a fairly good deal on an SUV through Thrifty ($254) for 3/5 - 3/12. However, I want to get it much cheaper.

I just got a great deal on priceline.com, husband and I are finially getting to take our honeymoon and for expense reasons I booked through priceline. I got 2 round trip airline tickets and 7 day rental car and 6 nights in the La Quinta Inn in orlando for $771.06. I thought that was a great deal. I am having trouble finding my reservations but I also may be looking to soon our trip is not for 32 more days.

How much do the chareter meals usuallt run for two adults?
