Hi all,

Ok here is my deal. I have a Visa Check Card but we cut it in 1/2 to avoid using it at the ATM. I only use it to pay bills and order stuff online.

I'd like to priceline a hotel for a few nights on my next trip but it says you have to have ID and a CC at check in. Mind you NOT the CC you paid with ... any CC will do ...it's just to run on the room in case you have phone charges or something.

I don't have a CC!! Do you think they would just accept a $$ deposit on the room for any expenses?

Help! I didn't think about this and at this point I don't think I could even get a replacement check card in time!

Could you maybe buy a pre-paid cc through your bank or I think they even sell them at the mall for a charge?

You are saying...you do not still have the two halves of the original credit card...that you cut in half so you don't use it at the ATM...correct? You are just using the numbers, right?

If I had no other option, I'd bring my CC statement for the past 3 months...to show them that it has been paid in full...and then I'd explain why I don't have a physical credit card.

This may or may not fly with them...but it would be my guess it would. Heck, I'd believe you if you had the current bill in hand...but then again, you could have cancelled the card... but then...don't they have a number that they can call to see if it is a current card?

Lol...after an offer I made on another forum I realize there are soooo many ways people can be dishonest. No one on the boards was dishonest with me...they just pointed out how my offer could be fraudulent if I was not an honest person. Geez...I felt 2 inches high! lol! I'm an honest person, but unless you know that...there is no way you can really be sure. I thought maybe if people looked at my past posts they could tell, but I guess we finally really do have to trust one another...within reason.

Can you call the CC company and get a replacement for this trip and then cut it up when you are done?

The problem is with PL you can't ask the hotel in advance since you don't even know what hotel you'll be getting. I'm sure many hotels would be happy to take a cash deposit, run a credit check or just block LD calls from your room BUT unless you have photo ID and a credit card the hotel doesn't have to let you check in and you're not entitled to a refund.

You really should get a duplicate card issued, cut it up later if you have to.

Normally ozymo's suggestion would make sense but with a PL reservation you've already paid for the hotel room in full. If the hotel decides to stick to their rules you're completely out of luck. No room and no refund.

If you can't get a replacement card I'd skip PL and book direct with a hotel.

Thanks. I called to get a replacement card but they are not sure they can get it to me in time ... I'll wait and see if it comes.

When are you travelling? It should only take ten to fourteen business days for the replacement card to arrive.

Our bank (Commerce) and a few others do have those prepaid visa cards. We used one to pay for our onboard charges with our Jan cruise. Worked fine. There was no fee to purchase the card and I just put $300 on it so I wouldn't spend more than that.

I have always used my Visa check card on my hotel and have never had a problem. The only people that I have heard having a potential problem are rental cars. Hope this helps.

If you use commerce the can give you a new card right at the bank

I have used Priceline many times and have never been asked to show my credit card. I have said 'do you want my credit card in case I want to charge 'incidentals'?.....the response has always been "well, if you want to". In other words, we have never actually been asked to show a credit card for a Priceline room. I don't know if this is the 'norm' or not, but it has been our experience.

I just used Priceline recently with the Sheraton in Richmond, VA and was not asked for a CC. They said not to worry since the room was paid for. I also reserved a room for another couple that was with us and they didn't have to give a CC either. Very easy check-in and check-out.

Hope this helps, Melissa

PS: I am also not sure if this is the norm or not, but I have heard of it happening to others also.

However,if you do not give them a CC you may discover the phone is not turned on! (I have occassionally had to remind hotels that I DID give a credit card and want a PHONE! LOL!)
